Good luck to him. But purchasing a brew pub spot and assuming you will do well having 0 experience in the brewing industry is almost annoying to me. But hey, everyone is entitled to blowing wads of cash how they feel. It's not far from my wife and I in Portsmouth but I always thought the Blue Lobster spot was in a kinda lousy location.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

It would be funny if Dave Sakolsky moved back into that spot.

He seems quite content with where he is now, and his beers reflect it. Why revisit hell?

With them closeing he really already has.

I like the new space better than the BL spot anyhow.

This looks like a great head brewer opportunity for any up and coming assistant brewer.

"He has yet to hire a staff and acquire a brewing license, but he said he’s hoping to begin operations in January or February."

I wish them well, but think that they're being a little bit optimistic on the timeframe... what's the turnaround for fed paperwork these days?

Seems like a bakery being opened by someone who doesn't know how to bake.

But someone who knows how to run a sucsessful business. You can hire a baker. That's what BL did. THey were just too damn stupid to know the talent they had.

The guy runs a good business already, if he hires the right brewer he should be just fine.

Honestly, based on what beers he said that he liked in the article, I'm not sure I'd be interested in trying some Traveler Shandy knockoff. I do wish them well, especially since the brewery is about a mile from where my grandparents camp during the summer and I loved bringing some fresh Blue Lobster beer there when Dave was brewing Gold Claw.

Could be an opportunity for Dave Yarrington to get back in the game and step into a ready made space where he can be creative on a smaller scale again. I assume he's probably looking to do something where he has some equity, but you never know.

But a bakery caters to pretty much everyone. Not to mention a bakery is risky enough. Now take a product that a majority of the public does not give a fuck about, a product you as the owner know nothing about, and pay for all of this incredibly expensive equipment and ingredients and hire someone you "hope" will make you money. Beer is just too fickle and if it isn't top notch or have some weird cult following just puts you in the hole. As I said before the spot is really crappy and I only live about 20 minutes away. Good luck to him but this has bad idea written all over it. Too many people in craft beer, especially people who are in it just because it's become "cool" now. It's like screenprinters who think they are going to become famous and rich printing. YOU are not the artist or creative one. Stop thinking you are.

Beer doesn't have to be top notch or have a cult following to not put you in a hole. You (we) do not represent the majority of people who buy craft beer. There are a lot of mediocre to good breweries in the whole NE area that have neither top notch beer or a cult following and never get mentioned here that are doing just great . There are a handful of breweries that do have a cult following and thier beers are slightly above average to downright atrocious. I know people who keep the first type of place in business and plenty of people here keep the latter type of place in business. Beer really isn't as fickle right now as reading these boards would leave you to believe.

But it's not going to MAKE you money. It might stay open, but the bubble is going to burst soon.

Tough crowd around here. Maybe wait until they open, try the beer, and judge accordingly?

What's the point? Beer Armageddon is coming. Might as well throw in the towel now.

If the facility hasn't changed, a TTB Brewers Notice can be transferred rather easily; just background checks.
