I had approx 30 different pumpkin beers last year that I acquired locally and through trades. I wanted to have a pumpkin tasting but no interest at the time so I drank them over a few weeks. As much as I normally dislike DFH beers, I found the punkin to be one of the best, right behind schafly. Original DR 9 was also great since the spices had died down a little and the stout came through a little more.

^^ Agreed. My taste buds are partial to DFH's Punkin' Ale too. I will likely load up on the stuff once I see it hit the shelves. I got the Fat Jack from Halls.

I felt the opposite. I really wanted the Punkin to have a stronger, pumpkin-pie like taste, and I didnt get that. I'm still looking for a pumpkin beer thats really strong and in your face, and havent found it yet....

Try Southern Tier Pumking if you are looking for that pumkin-pie spice.

also, in Delmarva there is Heavy Seas - The Great Pumpkin

Thanks. They don't distribute to Texas, so I'll have to see if I can get some "some other way."

I did forget about pumpking, awesome beer as well, probably in my top 3. As with most everything, pumpkin beers are very subjective to what one is looking for as far as spices go and they are across the board. To each their own. Pumpking reminds me of pie crust, in a good way.

I don't think I ever saw the Sam Adam's Fat Jack in Austin, did I just miss it? Anyone seen any left? Thanks!

Wasatch Pumpkin is one of the best I've tried this season. Balanced and has a natural pumpkin taste.

Went by my local store in Garland, and they didn't have Pumpkinator yet, but I had my mind set on some pumpkin ale. Picked up a 4 pack of Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale. It's seriously good. It's 7.5% ABV, and has a strong munich and crystal malt backbone. Pumpkin flavor comes through nicely. It tastes like a liquid pumpkin pie. I've not appreciated pumpkin ales in the past, but I'm impressed with this one. Can't wait to try the Pumpkinator.

I would have to second Chuck_hell Wasach put out an excellent pumpkin beer this year. My girlfriend likes it more than Punkin. I am still a Punkin **** though.

I am sad to admit that I passed on Wasatch before I heard how good it was, and my local store is out of it. Not sure if it's available anywhere locally. I've been doing the bigger beers lately, and the 4% ABV turned me away. I guess I shouldn't have judged a book by its beginning and ending (gravity, that is).

I agree. As far as the easily obtainable pumpkin beers (Austin) go I was impressed with Wasatch. Both Squatters and Wasatch are doing some good beers under the radar.
