I can confidently say that I will never again in my life spend $30 on a bottle of beer.

I think that is fair. With the amount of affordable beer options, it is hard to justify some of the bottle prices out there.

I have had a harder time overall justifying the draft prices while turning a blind eye to some of the bottle prices, but I do most of my shopping at Shadyside MD so I never feel like I am getting ripped off.

I might tend to agree with you on that...but I think they've found the sweet spot of ($/oz + bottle size + quality) to get away with it.

They charge what...$12ish per 375? So that's roughly $1/oz right? That's kinda high...but a $12 price tag isn't going to raise a lot of eyebrows unless someone is considering bottle size and starts crunching the $/oz numbers.

I happen to LOVE JO beers...I thought woodburner and a couple of their dark app variants (and even a few of their special release sours) were truly world class.

I have been less than impressed with their beers so I am coming at it from a different perspective. I don't feel like I am getting a good value for my $$.

And that is really what we are talking about there. Our perceived value for our $$$

I think what is great about JO's is that the bottles are small so you can enjoy the beer twice as opposed to once for 750mls.

I'm weirdly the opposite; maybe it's an immediate gratification thing.

Maybe you are just so happy to be able to leave the house that you just throw your money at any/all draft beers regardless of price. :grinning:

I too think that the draft prices are ridiculous here in Pittsburgh, but like Troygreer, I probably have a weird line of thinking. I have a harder time paying $8 (draft + tax + tip) for a 12 - 16 ounce IPA draft than I do dropping $25+ for a 650-750 ml BA stout. I wish that the drafts in Pittsburgh's brewpubs were around $5 or so, but I understand the high cost of a startup brewery, especially the ones here in which the location was most likely completely renovated.

Gotta split those bad boys two or three ways with my lightweightedness and all. If I drank a whole 750 of BT by myself I'd have a bad time.

I'm with you, but I like to do the bulk of my drinking at home. and I'm willing to pay a little more for the convenience of taking the bottle home and consuming it at my leisure.

Yup. And usually the larger formatted bottles contain bigger beer, so you can enjoy it over a longer period of time. It's crazy how expensive it gets when I just pop into a brewpub for a few beers with my girl.

Agreed. The lady and I don't even go to places like Caliente unless it is happy hour. But as we have talked about before, they built their prices around having them on happy hour special. I'd rather them lower the price by $1-2 and then have a $1 for happy hour.

Agree. Most of my drinking outside of the home falls into happy hour category (predominately FH and Mad Mex). FH prices on their house beers are reasonable outside of discount, but Mad Mex is a happy hour must. If it's a night of Voodoo and/or BG, then I'm not looking at the receipt until morning, if at all.
