I'm more curious to hear what it cost to ship 900 large format bottles internationally.

Just say, "Well, you may have point. I've been thinking about homebrewing instead. Let me show you this system on the internet, it's only about 5 grand to get started and I could use the spare bedroom...".

A lot of it is just will power. In the short term, there's the fact that drinking isn't particularly great for the body, so I tend to do the "I probably shouldn't" pretty often. Especially considering I have so much stuff that I'm excited about, not applying this principle would mean drinking kind of all the time. My new thing is, for most days, asking myself if I exercised, and if so, I kind of offset a beer. In longer term will power, I guess the fact that I have a bit of mental-hoarding about this beer (as in, "if I have this now, I'll never know how it is with 3 years on it!") also helps me keep some things around.

Also, I'm a friendly dude, so I chat a lot with local beer guys, and have brought beers to share a few times at local places. So some guys tend to keep an eye out for me when some of the tougher-to-get stuff comes around.

My other issue is really having only one particularly close drinking buddy. So we'll get together and crush a couple/few bottles. But with my girlfriend drinking less and less lately, it's been a bit tougher to justify cracking some of the larger bottles.

The new thing is that I'm telling myself to chill for a bit, and slow down on trading. Only trade stuff already in the cellar to keep costs down. But there's always something new and exciting coming out (FW XIX soon, then Black Friday, then more Trillium and Tree House and HF all the time, and new Jack's Abby stuff, etc. forever) so it's tough. Now that it's cold out, it's time to drink these puppies.

You don't have enough!! Ha ha. Seriously, I envy you. I live in NYC and do not have this amount of space. BTW, I noticed the small space you alloted for the Pampers. We are expecting a child in March, by which time my beer collection will be restricted to a small space in our refrigerator.

Well one of the benefits in the military is that they ship your stuff for free, unless f course you go over the weight limit your alloted for your household goods. The state im going to doesnt charge any customs fees but i will likely have to pay federal customs to the tune of a couple hundred bucks so no big deal

Will do...just gotta wait to get my stuff tomthe other side of the ocean. I have posted pics from my trips to Belgium in the hauls thread. But yeah...900+ bottles is way too much but most of the stuff is from Belgium and would cost probably twice as much as the states.

@Neil225 is that a Liefmans Gluhkriek hiding in there with the green wrap. Tried it yesterday for the first time. It is damn good stuff

Her: "you have too much on beer"
Me: "our closets are overflowing with clothes and shoes you buy and wear only once"
    Her: "touchè"

    Or

Her: "you are drinking too much beer, your stomach is getting fat"
Me: "you are eating too much chocolate" (I'm not stupid enough to throw in a fat comment)
    Her: "touchè"

Congrats on the child! Stock up on beer and diapers now. You'll need plenty of both.

Even if all the six/four packs in that picture were full (and they aren't), I count no more than 38 beers or so.

That's less than what some people pick up on one trip to the store -- not even talking "craft" drinkers, just drinkers in general... I've seen plenty of people leave with a 24-pack each of two different light/lite beers, for example. Or three twelve-packs, which is still probably a bit more than what you have there.

Nothing wrong with stocking up on stuff that keeps well. I've got 5 pounds of dry pasta in my kitchen cabinet right now because I eat a lot of pasta and don't want to have to buy more every week or so. The same applies with beer!

I have a 3 and 4 year old. The Pampers box has old paperwork in it. I likely have too much paperwork as it's encroaching on my beer.

The shelves are reinforced but they bow a little bit due to where I put the center braces.
It's about 7 bottles or so deep and I need to go through it to find out what I actually have in there. Temp controlled at 55.

I've got ~300 bottles of gueuze in my basement and no complaints from the old lady. I do feel bad sometimes when she is trying to put food in the fridge and the beers are crowding every shelf.
