I think we can all agree there are bad traders and also some Ebay sellers weren't/aren't assholes specifically out for profit. (Could the douche bag traders BE the ebay sellers??? dun dun dun... the plot thickens)

I'll respond and concur that the 'Saw beer X selling on ebay for blah blah' is annoying but can't you liken it to someone saying I 'Saw Anne trading for 09 Darklord...'? Its the same concept just a different value medium.(money with ebay, and other beers for traders) If you paid $12 for a beer a few years ago what makes it more valuable that I should give you a couple beers I just bought for $10 - $15 a piece for? Value is all so relative..

Final comment, I completely agree and disagree with you...

No I don't think so, you just pass on the trade. Guys looking to make a huge return profit on a brew they have is their right I suppose, but I don't have to play along. Bad traders are guys who fail to ship, I know a guy who's been burned twice this way, selling stuff not as advertised, IE: fresh IPA's that are a few months old etc.

well its a new reason I never trade, its 1 for 1 or none with me. Still its too much of a hassle and shipping is just too expensive. I have sent stuff as gifts but I could never trust someone to trade I never met in real life.

I've always had good guys I've traded with, I'd trade with them anytime. france 44 is easier because they charge fairly and the shipping is reasonable and fair, nothing's inflated, but trading does take some time with protecting the product and getting it to UPS. But it's well worth it I've tried brews I'd never ever see here in my lifetime. The problem living in NC is finding brews that are easily tradeable. I wouldn't give up on the trading though, lots of good guys here.

If the beer is that good, I will go there. otherwise its just beer. I never miss the thing I never had. Its the tickers I cannot understand. what do you win when you tasted but not enjoyed every beer there is? nothing... and get this there is no new beer. really.

The central point being completely overlooked is not whether a particular example is "prevalent" or whether the trade "makes sense", it is that the Trader has the "right" to post the ISO:FT and the forum to do so is allowed to remain open. If someone wanted to post a 1987 can of Bud Dry on ebay and ask $1000 for it, it may not "make sense" but he had both the right and the forum to do so.

The diffference between the two arguments is that one side (a small minority of like minded people) sought to take away the rights of another group (again likely a small minority of like minded people). Not simply "I disagree with you" but "I want to take away your opportunity to employ your point of view".

Granted this is only beer and not life saving drugs (although to some it may be ) but whenever you seek to limit the rights of others to further your own agenda, you put yourself in some very poor company historically.

Except its illegal to do it. I give you the right to do anything you want if it does not hurt me, but the laws we live by don't and many make no sense, hence we have government. go figure they have libraries of books on this crap.:slight_frown:

Fully agreed; however, the legal issues exist on both sides of this argument, both trading and selling. That is why I chose not to introduce legality.

Legally, neither avenue should be allowed to exist. :grimacing:

Stating the "illegality" as a given for both sides, my central point stands as expressed.

God knows, I don't want to open a discussion on Constitutional law in this forum:rolling_eyes: People are capable of rationalizing any behavior which serves their self-interest.

I never really cared much about eBay and certainly wasn't involved in its demise, nor did I ever buy anything from it. For a good laugh about eBay and blame deflection, and rationalizing, look up the story of Adam Jackson. I think eBay was way overblown problem (my only concern would have been if eBay sellers were largely responsible for the great Cantillon drought that has no end in sight, but that can't be proven or disporoven). eBaying had many parallels with trading. I was just pointing out that the extremely unbalanced $4$ argument wasn't really a "thing" in the trading world.

How did a thread about selling beer on eBay turn into ****** and pillaging villages? I love beer just as much as the rest of them, but come on.

Yeah, I got in trouble for posting a meme of Peter, Michael and Samir with baseball bats gathered around a dead horse. And that was on like page 8.

Funny, I think this thread survives because (for the most part) it has remained civil and somewhat thoughtful on both sides of the argument (and it is relevant to beer), this alone may qualify it as a "modern miracle".

Headline: "Beer Forum first on internet to have relatively civil discussion regarding ideological differences, end of world must be near!":grinning:

But although I earlier alluded to this thread being like Jason of Friday the 13th fame, it is also somewhat Python-esque "Let's not quarrel and bicker over who killed who!":stuck_out_tongue:

I too trade much more infrequently nowadays. Similar reason.

BTW, you still refuse to back up any of your points, is that what you meant by the ignorance crack?

I don't buy beer on eBay and I don't trade for it so by the lights of this thread I think I'm supposed to just piss off and be happy about it.

I might take issue with that if it weren't what I was up to already.

EDIT: Everybody knows circus theme music. I'd rather censor myself.

There is no difference between trading and Ebaying. The difference lies within the intent(s) of the people involved. Period.

This thread is similar to having my elementary school teachers come across a fight behind the schoolhouse and letting the kids go at it until they can't raise their arms or form a fist.

Sweaty, winded and bloody...each of them a "winner" in their own minds.

They will live to fight another day.
