I wonder if they didn't see much of a sustainable business in celiac disease sufferers.

Honestly it seems like a hard business to get funding for. I understand a brewery offering a gluten free beer but a whole brewery built around it?

I went to Whole Foods Wexford last Thursday to buy beer and have a draft and it was a sight for sore eyes to see two ladies working and not that ugly, yet knowledgeable about beer, guy who is usually there.

Actually was kinda sad he wasn't there since I don't make it there too often.

1% of the population has Celiacs. Then you have the crack pots who think they are "gluten sensitive" (not a real thing) which is a few fractions of a percent. How many of this 1.025% of the population are actually looking for a craft alternative to Coors Light (which is already gluten free)? So yeah, they are pigeonholed into a tiny market.

Probably a higher percentage than those that like kettle sours.:sunglasses:

Gluten Free beers and Ciders are growing at a faster rate than traditional craft beers. Regardless of the actual percantage of the population that is affected by celiacs, there's definitely a market for it.

And if one person in a household is gluten averse, that pretty much means the rest of the household has to be. Bottom line is that they're expanding because they couldn't meet demand, so they must be doing something right. And maybe there's a segment of the population that just prefers the taste of GF beer?

Haha, there does seem to be a backlash against kettle sours.

There is a market now but for how long. I could see this going the Atkins diet and fade away in a couple years. I would make a beer that is gluten free but not a whole brewery

I was just about to say the same thing, only use the South Beach diet as an example. It is a fad.

The owners of the brewery have celiacs themselves, so even if it fades from popularity, at least it gives them something to drink themselves for a while. Nice dudes too. Hope they continue to do well.

    It's national stout day apparently.

    happy national stout day

I'm going to drink an old bottle of Black Out.

Do you celebrate national stout day and if so, what stout are you going to drink?

I'm drinking Dragons milk reserve coffee and chocolate. I had the triple mash last night and it was great. I might crack an old stone it's too. I don't start work until 1:30 tomorrow so it might be a great night.

Coors light is gluten free? How/why would that be?

    Seems highly unlikely.

You guys might know more about this than I do, but I was always under the impression that making a decent gf beer was a lot more of a process than just replacing the normal fermentables with sorghum or pixie dust or whatever. To my knowledge the only craft brewery that has a gf option without being a fullblown gf brewery is dfh. Seems like if it were easy a lot more places would do it.

Stone's Delicious IPA (the lemondrop hop one) is gluten reduced whatever the hell that means.
