New Belgium also has a "gluten reduced" IPA coming out. And there's another big brand that's slipping my mind right now. Gluten is just a protein so my guess is that an enzyme is added to the beer to break down the protein and make it easier to digest.

Lakefront too, but yeah, those are still more exceptions-that-prove-the-rule.

And replacing normal fermentables with sorghum is what most GF beers are. And they almost universally suck.

To my knowledge Aurochs has yet to use sorghum in a beer. They are using buckwheat, millet, quinoa, probably something I'm forgetting. They basically can't brew beer 'normally' with those materials. They are also having to figure out where to source malted GF fermentables and are doing everything they can to ensure that their beer from raw material to finished product is not in a shared production line, tap line, etc. as a beer that has gluten.

I'm sure they know they've put themselves in a relatively niche (but probably growing) market segment. It is almost a slight to their beer to qualify it as 'good for a gluten free beer'. Some of what I've had is just really good beer without a qualifier.

As for where they stand. They had just received their larger equipment earlier in the summer at their Emsworth spot. I'm assuming they're still working on getting that up and running. I'm paying attention to what they do, I think they're doing something unique not just to Pittsburgh but across the US.

No knowledge. A friend of mine has Celiacs and it's pretty much all he'll drink now purely because he can.

Do you know what they change in the brewing process for those non-grain grains?

FWIW I think I had an Omission beer that I genuinely enjoyed.

I actually enjoyed Estrella Duara Marzen. It was a nice gluten removed.

FYI Gluten free beer can be made using barley.

Sharp Edge can be a gem but only when it's Happy Hour. Every other time, don't even think about it. During PCBW they had glasses of BCS and Abyss for like $4...

FWIW, Clarity Ferm can allegedly precipitate the gluten out of any normal homebrew batch of beer. Never tried it though.

I just looked this up yesterday. I think I remember reading that Coors Light's gluten content is <20 ppm, & most gluten averse drinkers, anecdotally, don't have problems drinking it. It also looks like Coors is actually brewing a GF beer in the near future.

CL is actually less than 10ppm. Less than 20ppm is required to be considered gluten free in the US. Other beers less than 20 are Corona Extra, Duvel, two of the Modelos, and a few others.

I thought that was the case, but didn't want to further risk screwing up info due to my shoddy memory. And wow, Duvel's under 20 ppm?
