My thoughts exactly. I had a pour of it at a bar a couple years ago and was a bit let down. Reminded me quite a bit of Pedro Ximenez which I'm not a huge fan of. But yeah, I could take 200 dollars get multiple bottles of amazing whisk(e)y.

I'm sure I'll see this on a shelf in western ND....in about 5 years.

I'm one of the crazy people that wants it and will pay this price just for the collectibility and novelty. If anyone has access to it, PM me. Cheers!

A couple of World of Beers in Tampa are doing a friendsgiving event, $40 gets you some wings and some sam adams inspired sides along with an oz or 2 pour of utopia. I'm on the fence with that.

You won't see it at all. It is allocated to the eastern part of the state. Western part doesn't move enough SA apparently.

This year the ND allocation was cut in half with Fargo receiving 6 bottles and I believe Grand Forks got 2.

I recall passing on a bottle of 2007 in August 2008 in Jamestown. That is the furthest west it goes, as Jamestown is included in Fargo's territory.

I have been lucky to be in the right place at the right time to snag them.

I drank about 6 ounces of 2015 at GABF this year, it's good.

Thanks for the info. I lived in Fargo for 15 years. Only when I move to Minot 2 years ago do I decide to broaden my beer horizons, go figure! At least we have Bell's and Founders now, thankfully.

Will a commemorative glass come with this release?

I live in Boston and they usually go for around $180-200 so if I was anywhere else and saw it for $200 I'd snag it, Utopias is truly a fantastic like no other

I sprung for a "bucket list" bottle today. Indeed, there is a tag around the neck with a promo code for a free glass. $3 handling is required. I tried to order online, but they are out of stock. I called, and actually got a customer service rep. She said they are out, and they will know in a few days if they will get any more. Yes, she said "if", not "when". I mentioned Sam might have thousands of disappointed customers if they don't come through. I have faith that Mr Koch will see to it that the offer will be made good.
The only question I have is how long I will stare at the fantastic bottle before I pour and sip. I will also say I have a great wife who will sip along with me. It's a killer price, but I will stay out of the BCBS lines this year.

The bottle I bought came with a code to enter in the Sam Adams e-store for a special glass (regular price $18) for only a small shipping and handling fee.

Please post if you have any luck. I entered the code and got an "invalid code" notice. That's when I called.

Store by me had one for $300. I seriously contemplated snagging it for about 20 minutes. Then I realized how much great beer I could buy for the same price and then passed on it. I would definitely like to try it once in my lifetime, but not this year.

The glass shows available for backorder. If I recall correctly, this happened last time as well. Everyone tried to fill their order at the same time.

cant imagine how much a case will be here. Do these come 24 to a case or is it 6 or 9? Bet all are spoken for at my beer guy. Smelled an empty bottle a few months back at a friends house. Nice.

    Enjoy

I would assume they come in cases not larger than 6 as the bottle is quite wide and inside it's own shipping box.

Good luck with that  I bought a 2009 bottle with the "Free Glass" hang-tag (the retailer even mentioned the offer when I bought the beer, so he obviously had been informed about it by the BBC distributor). I went around and around on their website trying to order it, called the Customer Service number and after a few more tries by her, the rep finally said, "Oh, wait - You're in New Jersey, we can't offer the free glass to you due to state law." Even though I have gotten numerous rebates and free merchandise/offers from breweries (including a hat and a glass from BBC) over the years, it apparently had to do with the higher ABV of Utopias putting it in the "Spirits" category for such offers.

Now, to me - when someone buys a bottle of beer for $199 (and up), you know what? - throw in the !@#$ "free" glass with the package - just as numerous beers, wines and liquors are packaged with free glasses around the Holidays (that's legal in NJ). Don't make customers jump through hoops, enter a secret code number, pay shipping and handling (!) or be victims of the "VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. NOT AVAILABLE IN ALL STATES" fine print.

I had spoken to the local BBC distributor's rep about Utopias before I found one, and he told me they don't ship it to the store via the normal delivery truck, but the reps "hand carry" it to the retailers. Well, then, don't tell the retailer about the !@#$ "free" glass offer, and open the unsealed box and take the damn hang tag off the bottle or, better yet, "hand carry" the !@#$ "free" glass into the store, as well, and have the retailer give it to the poor bastard forking over a couple hundred dollars for a bottle of beer.

6 years on, and I'm still bitter about that !@#$ "free" glass? You're goddam right I am. :grinning:
