According to their website, Top Hops isn't getting Rye or Rare. Anyone know different?

You could check with Di Cicco's in Ardsley, which is close by. I'm not too sure about that side of the Hudson, but if you do feel like crossing the TZ bridge Cable Beverages in Bardonia isn't too far. They get limited variants, but enough regular BCBS that you don't have to go crazy.

I'm debating whether or not to skip 2015 altogether. I'm pretty miffed about the package size - 16.9oz seems like BCS no man's land, as it's way too much for one (I'd rather a 10oz package, honestly) and just a bit shy of the right amount for two. I might grab a bottle of each if I see them and they aren't insanely expensive, but definitely not doing the TH morning this year.

This is the worst news ever! I scheduled my surgery for Monday back in July because of this event. Shitballs...last time I do that for beer.

What's really confusing is that Black Friday is 11/27....

    From Facebook:
Oh, it's back. As many of you know, we hold a Black Friday event for every year's Bourbon County release.

We'll have Bourbon County and variants for sale as well as on tap along with some fun surprises. More info to come soon!

    No bottles announced yet.

I believe that info is from 2013 and has not been updated. Black Friday was 11/29 in 2013. And I did a search for the thread from last year and the post said it was from the year before. I know last year there was a delay with Backyard Rye due to label approval or something.
Wish I had info on this year.....

They will have the variants, there is no way they get locked out, did you see the pallet of VR they had last year? Old message, plus they may not even announce what they have. I think last year they had a case or two of some older releases that the first few people got. I can only imagine what the price on Rare in the city is going to go for.

if you look hard enough you find variants a few weeks after the launch day.

there was still some 4 packs of non variant 2014 on the shelf at my local grocery store this year as late as May.

some distributors arent even aware of the hype, and they dont ship it to retail until December.

There is still 2014 on shelves in NY albeit at really jacked up prices. Saw BW maybe 2 months ago at Hell's Kitchen Brewtique too, $10 per.

for New Jersey, in ocean and Monmouth county, I have (very) good insight into where you can find them come release day  if anyone is interested. I post every year where I see them on my twitter. Not to self promote for followers, but i feel like its the easier way to get to the minute info on these sorts of things.

Message me and Ill let you know how to follow my updates. And they will be much more specific this year.

Any NYC specific tips? I've struck out for the past 2 years somehow, and I'd really like to grab at least one bottle of a few varieties without paying someone in blood :stuck_out_tongue:

There's no reason you should strike out in NYC.

If you don't want to stand in line on Black Friday, talk to your local better bottle shop and find out if they're releasing on Black Friday. If they are, swing over to them when they open.

If you want to hunt down Rare, Rye, or even Coffee (with no idea how rare it'll be this year), there is no sure bet except heading to Top Hops and braving the cold. As said earlier in the thread, however, there is no way in hell I'm going to camp out in the cold long enough to ensure a bottle of Rare. Got there at 6:30 last year and was 50th in line... I can only assume that it'll take getting there at 5am or earlier this year to assure the same spot.

Yikes! I did see that, and no way in hell am I doing that either. I'll definitely keep my eyes on the Top Hops FB page before Black Friday. My local bottle shops shut down, Bierkraft was the next closest option and they're also gone too, so what's a man to do? According to Facebook, 77 people are "going" to the event already, blarg.
