Your aware that AB Inbev only owns the regular lineup of Goose Island right? Goose Island still brews all the good stuff themselves.

Like I said when a brewery does it I dont condone it but I at least understand it from a storage/capacity standpoint. Retailers and wholesalers are doing this volunetarily just to make and extra buck or two, and who knows what the storing environments are. They could be storing them in the furnace room for all we know.

I think a fruited stout in general just doesn't sound appealing to me. I know they were going for like a chocolate covered cherry with sea salt thing but I think it's going to be a miss. If I have the opportunity, I'll certainly buy what I can but I'm definitely not seeking it out.

The only time I can recall them doing that was with the first release of CBS, & it was the same price as it was a few months prior. I think some of the time they hang onto stuff to try preventing a cluster. For instance, 2014's KBS release went poorly, so they just used 2015's allotment for the doughnut brunch & sold the few bottles left over from that. Stuff like that.

EDIT: Re: other "old stuff" - there's plenty of old stuff that makes it onto the shelves without any forethought...I thought that's what you were talking about.

A miss is kind of strong wording dont you think. Have you had a bad variant of Bourbon County? I wasnt the biggest fan of Backyard, but it was still a well made beer. When you factor in the new pricing then I could see your argument there. I think its going to be very similar to cherry rye, and that beer is delicious.

Around $9.99 for BCBS in Chicago so probably $14.99 here.

See, I love fruited stouts. I thought backyard was tremendous and lindley park is still one of my favorite beers. So that's where I'm coming from.

What is the pricing like on bcbs stuff this year, by the way?

And what's the limit on how many growler fills of BCBS I'm allowed at one time? (It seriously never gets old.)

Plus how many places actually have a proper cellar to cellar stuff correctly? I mean I guess it doesn't matter as most cellars are hallway closets for most people anyways.

It's pretty ridiculous that people already have bottles of Rare, Regal Rye, and the other '15 releases FT.

On a side note, I need to make it down to Brew Gentlemen soon. It's been a while since my last visit, and all of this recent talk about their beers has me jonesin' for some.

My thought process is that if a variant isn't as good as the base beer, then why make the variant? That's the definition of a miss. Granted, this is purely speculation as I haven't had it but it doesn't sound appealing.

Crooked distributors I presume? I've seen pics of people with cases in their backseats already as well.

I think that the Bourbon County variants are a unique and interesting twist on the base stout. Speaking on a broad spectrum, while variants often end up being inferior products, in the case of Goose Island's products, I think they've hit home runs on every one of them.

I'm looking forward to the Regal Rye, and dammit, I am going to get my hands on a bottle one way or another. :astonished:

It's just crazy that some people in some areas *ahem Pittsburgh* have to basically hit the beer Powerball to even have the chance to walk in a store that sells these products, while you see some people walking out with cases of these beers like it was a normal trip to the beer store.
