DC/MD/NoVA Bourbon County Stout Sightings 2015

Any idea what time last year?

 

Heard today that bottles of Rare are going to retail for $79.99 this year. Woof.

 

What were they last year? And what is the size?

 

For $79.99, it better be 1.5L. I thought Rare was only made once before in 2010 but not positive.

 

Pretty sure that's the price for the 16.9 oz bottle. They're selling it for $60 at the Bourbon County event at the GI brewpub this week, so not really surprising that it's going to be $80 elsewhere. And yes, 2010 was the only other year they made Rare, when I believe it was generally ~$50 for a 22 oz.

 

Its kind of weird, but I think I would have definitely bought a bottle of Rare if I saw one for $60, but now I don't think I would buy one for $80. I don't know why, but that extra $20 really feels like it changes things for me.

 

Btw, I may be off by $1 or so, but I heard prices for Regular, Coffee and Barleywine will be $10.99 per bottle and Regal Rye will be $23.99. Definitely up across the board on a $/oz. basis.

 

...aaaaaaaaaand I know what I will be doing come Black Friday - laying around in my underwear patiently waiting for Cyber Monday to come around.

Joy, a near 50% increase on a per ounce basis, and close to double the price on a per drinking session basis. Count me out.

Wasn't last year like 23.99 or 24.99? That's basically like last year was * $0.01689995984 per ml this year it is $.02, so basically a 25% rise, though smaller than I would've thought.

 

2012 was the most recent batch, 22 oz bombers in 23 year Pappy barrels, had one last year, it's amazing, Fayston Maple BA Stout is a close 2nd in my book...

 

I believe you're referring to the 2010 Rare that was aged for two years in a 23 year old Pappy barrels.

 

Yes, there has only been one batch of Rare, and it was way back in 2010.

Churchkey and NRG are full of shit when it comes to what beer is available in the area. For every event or festival they have, somewhere on the taplist a beer that I've had before in DC will say DC DEBUT! I'm pretty sure they said the same thing last year about Vanilla Rye, and it hit stores on Black Friday just like everywhere else. They just like to play the exclusivity of rare game.

 

I also don't get the Monday reference -- I remember they said this last year as well, and if you waited until Monday you'd be SOL. Maybe that's when other bars get it?

 

That'd be a bummer if it's a case of being SOL come Monday. I have to travel home for the holiday and won't be back until Monday... Womp womp
