Details below from their site on the release for 14 Nov @ 11am. They appear to have made some nice adjustments like doing a line count and then determining bottle allocations. Good on them for looking to improve the experience & getting beer to as many people as possible.

Another wild release is in the works, but this time we’re extra stoked to be able to share such an incredible collaboration release event with our good friends from 18th Street Brewery. Drew and Tom have brought together two distinctly different brewing philosophies to create a wonderfully floral and layered wild IPA with subtle tartness and oak tannin — a welcome addition to the Codex Series of wild ales.

With that in mind, we decided this was an ideal time to dig out many of our cellared wilds, and this party list is pretty ridiculous. Here’s a quick look at what we’ll have on tap throughout the brewery:

    • Wild 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18
    • Wild Blackberry
    • Wild Plum
    • Grisette
    • Punchdown Raspberry
    • Bourbon Barrel-Aged Abbey

And to avoid any concern about logistics – here’s the plan:

    • Line will be counted at 10:45am and allocation determined. If you’re in line at this time, we will be do our absolute very best to ensure you receive bottles.
    • Bottle sales will run through the back of the brewery, and anyone interested in the limited release, draught-only beers will need to re-enter through the taproom so we can monitor capacity.
    • First specialty draught beers tapped at 11am — quantities are limited.
    • Taproom bar will operate as normal, but tickets for limited release draught beers will be sold separately in the barrel cellar to ease congestion.
    • While you wait for bottles, our friends from FreshGround will be on hand to share complimentary pours of their delicious coffee with you.
    • Once inside the taproom, the good dudes from Nobel House will be here serving lunch from 11a – 2p.

Brewing, drinking, and sharing wild beers are all fairly high priorities in the daily life of anyone working at Penrose, and I can say with almost 100% certainty that every last one of the fine folks who works alongside Tom and myself feel equally as bummed if we ever let someone down. That is never the goal. And if something happens to make one of our beer-drinking friends was not happy with us, we hope they trust that their feedback will always be taken to heart.

So to the folks who came to our last bottle release of Wild 13 and 14 and did not receive bottles — again, we are truly sorry you left empty handed, and we hope you return on Saturday, November 14th for the release of Wild 18. It will absolutely be worth your time, and we truly appreciate your continued support.

Anyone attending this weekend? I'm thinking about going but worried about the lines as I heard last release was a total mess.

I am thinking about going. They say they will determine the allocation once they figure out how many people are in line but it would be a little disappointing to wait in line forever and only get one or two 12 ounce bottles....

Anyone been to one of these releases? Do people typically bottle share in line?

Sounds like this round they're lining up the cattle through the brewery again, as they did for Wild 11 (which was the last Saturday release before this one). Faculty were selling chilled Penrose bottles poured into plastic cups to those in line for $1 - tasty considering it was 11 AM. They had some special one-offs that didn't make distro so that was cool (I enjoyed Desirous Trois).

From what I recall, many were 'sharing' in the line and taproom after they bought their allotment.

It's cool that Penrose is really trying to find various methods and procedures to get the best possible outcome. While I know you can't please everybody..even with the above method there's probably going to be some who don't get any maybe due to a miscount or friends holding places in line for others to show up later (which means the 'official count' will be low)...but they're doing everything they can to find the best procedure. Cheers to them!

I will say, the smoothest bottle release Ive ever been to was Solemn Oath Conquest a few months back. You pre-ordered your allotment online, and they opened up at 9AM. You just had to walk up to a table, give your receipt, and you got X amount of tickets to redeem your bottles at the next booth over. I'm curious as to why others don't follow a similar method.

How do these releases generally work? I know the site says bottle sales will run from the back of the brewery. Would the line be starting from the back? Any idea on price per bottle? Thanks!

I would guess between $10-15 based on previous releases.

The last release I was at there, the line did start in the back but then ran all the way to the front. I am sure it will be same deal and larger with 18th being involved.

I won't be able to make it Saturday unfortunately. I do need to get to Penrose soon though, I've been itching for some Coffee Navette. Have fun BAs!

Agreed, and I think the beer itself is really very good. People have been going nuts over Penrose's fruited sours but I tried several today and while they are good, they aren't really top tier to me. Perhaps an unfair sweeping generalization but fairly one note sour bombs. I know that is what the kids are into these days, but not my thing... Wild 18 has a great balance between the tartness and hops and is very subtle. The best Penrose beer I've had.

Told someone else the same thing about Wild 18. It is very balanced, and I'd agree it's the best in the series of this style. They did an awesome job with the release today. You could tell they really went all out to significantly compensate for the issues they felt caused bad feelings with the prior release. Kudos to Eric and Tom.

Also was happy to see Drew there with a sixtel of Coconut Hunter and bottles of BA Hunter for the line right before entering the pickup line. Very nice touch...

First time going and this exceeded my expectations. Was not aware of the amazing bottle sharing. Will have to bring some goodies to the next weekend release. That BA Hunter and Coconut Hunter was such a nice treat. That Raspberry Punchdown was out of this world.
