do you shy away from beers that have this on the label?

it wasn't a huge deal when i had not your father's rootbeer.

picked up terrapin liquid bliss and noticed the same "ingredient" is in the beer--haven't cracked one open yet, but am curious how this community feels about not having all natural ingredients.

what do you beer drinkers do?

    thanks for reading.

Terrapin was the first thing to come to mind. I kind of get using artificial ingredients for Liquid Bliss because of peanut allergies, but I generally avoid anything with artificial flavors, in beer or food.

I forget the ingredient that made me say "no thanks" to this one but I won't buy this. Schoffenhofer grapefruit weizen. if you happen to see the label please remind me of what I am talking about. You know how that drives a person batty when they can't remember something. =) I would love to know what it was anyway so I can look it up and see if it's really something I want to avoid or not.

I definitely shy away, but it is not a complete deal killer. I will not buy a beer that uses artificial flavors to save costs.

I like pure and simple beer. Not even the hops that make it taste like orange juice. But ive had many. Some are good but as long as it isnt overly sweet i dont mind.

I'm sorry, but this is just not ok. Simplicity and purity is one of the main reasons I like beer. Artificial flavors make it no better than soda

My gf drinks those i think it 50/50 grapefruit juice and hefe. They use something odd called cochineal extract in it for color and whatever else. I dislike them haha

Does Grapefruit Sculpin have flavoring added- it says "with natural flavors". I would shy away from anything with artificial flavoring, but natural flavoring would be pretty much what adjuncts are, right?

Did you see what cochineal extract actually is though? It's literally a dye made from INSECTS!

That's it! It's a dye made from bugs.

    Right, not artificial.

When Campari went away from using that coloring there was quite a stir a few years back.

Depends. How artificial is artificial? Artificial vs organic? Chemicals are chemicals - C2H5OH is the same whether it comes from direct fermentation or Dow Chemical. But yes, I tend to look less favorably upon beers with "artificial flavors added". If I'm desperate (thirsty) enough I'll still buy them.

I think that is because it has grapefruit added to it - and there are some interesting labeling rules from the TTB (@jesskidden can you expand on this one?).

How about the ground bug larvae living in the stored grain?

Sweet baby Jesus.......taste 100% fake to me but I don't know if it is or not. I guess I will try any beer and if it's good I drink it. If I know it has artificial sweetener I will pass.

I always wonder about beer that is called malt beverage. What's the difference? Biscotti break is labeled this way.

    Enjoy

With the TTB natural vs artificial is all about concentration. It actually has nothing to do with the source of the flavoring...

I think the majority of the details are in this:
    http://www.ttb.gov/pdf/brochures/p51903.pdf

I know some states have even more archaic (I'm thinking Texas as a good example) labeling rules.

You might trying checking @BierKonig 's postings as this has come up before.
