I am going to be making a day trip to Morgantown (from Pittsburgh) in a couple weeks for a conference. I ran a search for "Morgantown" in this forum and got no hits. I looked in the directory and it seems like the only option for a bottleshop is Ashebrooke Liquor Outlet, but it does not appear to be that great of an option from the reviews. Can anyone suggest anywhere to try/ i will probably only have time to hit up one or two places...

    Thanks,
    Jim

Two brewpubs fairly close to each other. The Morgantown Brewing Co. will give you more beers on tap. All of which I think are fairly solid. Your other option just down the street is the morgantown location of Mountain State Brewing. They usually only carry their year round beers on tap, which again are fairly solid. Ive only been to this location once, but if they happen to get one of their seasonals, or one offs, you will be in for a nice treat.

oooo... maybe I will force people to stay for dinner at Morgantown Brewing...

I was fishing for bottleshop options as maybe I will be able to find things that I can not get in Pittsburgh.

That is extremely unlikely with the possible exception of Bridge Brew Works.

Chances are slim Jim (natch! sorry.) Seriously, I savor the occasional trip to your burgh because the bottle shop options here are so limited still.
You might be able to find something from Bridge in Mo'town but probably pretty unlikely--don't think they go that far yet. But they may, and if so then you should certainly pick something up. The other breweries in the state (such as they are) do not bottle/can so you have to get them on tap. I would suggest that you spend your time with Morgantown Brewing Company as opposed to Mountain State. The MBC lineup can make for a respectable sampler with a pint of your favorite for the chaser. MS is and always has been glorified homebrew.
Slight Indulgence is given in the directory as a homebrew shop (even though their homebrew supplies are very limited) but they do have a very small selection of craft in there. Prices are stiff though. If you are going to the downtown brewpubs, you will be right near it. The Kroger at Suncrest Town Center has a decent selection of stuff, and some things that you don't see elsewhere in town. I always stop there when in Mo'town.
I want to apologize, but it's not my state.

morgantown sucks for bottles. I would stop in at Tudors Biscuit World though.

Slight Indulgence does have a couple of Bridge Brew bombers. They are very expensive though.
I work at WVU been in Motown scene for 25 years. It has improved but not great.
Best bet is Morgantown Brewing for sure. Mountain State solid but pedestrian as far as beer (food good) As far as bottle shops, forget it. Slight Ind is best bet.

when i was at NRG last week Bridge Brew Works was touting the release of their IPA, apparently a limited run. It wasn't out yet when I was there, only "coming soon" with pictures of the cases and bottles set for distribution. So if it happens to be at Slight Indulgence when you get there I would grab a couple of those, at least you'll know they are extremely fresh.

Anyone spot any Bridge Brew Works in town in the last week? Looking to head in tomorrow.

Has Morgantown Brewing changed since Christmas? I was there in December to pick up a couple growlers and was very disappointed. Granted, back when it it was WVBC, the beers were rather bland. The beers from MBC were downright undrinkable. The IPA had such a strange chemical flavor, I had to dump the whole growler.

Actually they have changed drastically since then. At that time they were undrinkable and definitely had the chemical taste. They have said it was due to Morgantown Utility Board over chlorinating the water without their knowledge. This subsequently ruined several batches of beer.
They actually totally fell off my radar at the time and I refused to go there.
They have since fixed the problem and their beers are actually very good again I am happy to say.

Agree with Dave, when I was there in May, the IPA was very good and you can't beat the price for a pint..

Good to hear. I hate seeing bad beer come out of that place. It used to be the only place I could go to enjoy decent beer when I was in college.
