Pittsburgh - New Beers & Local Breweries

It sits on shelves at a few places in the Boston area. I think I bought a bittle in May randomly.

 

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a hoppy barleywine, just saying it's not a very good one, especially given the prowess of the brewers.

 

The new batch of BOC is on point.

 

Is it regular BOC or is it another variant?

It was about 25-28$ a 4 pack most places I saw it. At Hops and Hocks in Brooklyn is where it was wayyy cheaper. Could have just been lucky and the guy was trying to cut me a big deal. I didn't even buy any I ended up spending all my money on Fantome.

i'm well aware it's my OCD coming out, but the grammatical errors and typos on that menu drive me bonkers. if you are a consumer-facing business, you should proofread your shit...

And still multiple cases of Hop Stalker.

 

New roundabout beer...never heard of this hop...

Azacca IPA: IPA dry hopped with whole leaf Azacca hops. Heady Topper yeast. Notes of eucalyptus on the nose, with citrus and fruit flavors. ABV: 6.7%

 

That's one of the 2 used in Hop Ranch, mosaic being the other.

 

Speaking of which, does anyone know about Victory's Ranch Double IPA? I had it on draft in Providence, and never have seen it in bottles. It was very good. And I figure, now being in PA, I would have a chance of hunting it down at some point.

 

I feel like I should like I should probably like Hop Ranch, but for some reason I just don't.

The first year it hit, I bought a case without ever trying it. For the 1st week, the bottles were heavy onion and garlic and I thought I wasted some money. After about 2-3 more weeks, it became a delicious tropical fruit-forward beer with such a light body that it was amazing. Then last year, they fucked with the grist and it came out much darker and heavier and I got heavy, heavy cardboard from it even fresh. I really want to love Victory but they make it hard sometimes. Harvest is a mess this year compared to last.

Back to the Roundabout beer, I'm curious. Hop Ranch is the only time I've heard Azecca being used so there's not too much to go off of.

 

Over the weekend WP Wexford had BA Narwhal and Fort. I bought the last bottle of Higher Math.

 

Shaler GE has BA Narwhal as well.

Still waiting for them to clearance out the BA Hibernation. It's just sitting there with about an inch of dust on it.
