This beer (Superfan) is not a fruit bomb.

They're trying  It's not nearly as good, but it is in the style.

    Also, welcome back!!

Excellent, I swear I flipped that 12 pack every which way and looked at every side of it and didn't see one

Dang, really hoping that Colorado breweries start looking into that style, I can't say enough about how much that style has changed my views on the IPA.

They are elusive. The 6-pack bottles I looked at right after were even fresher with a March 2 date.

I love this brewery, didn't love this beer. I need to familiarize myself with the leading examples of the New England IPA style. Because what I got was a far less in-your-face hop aroma than, say, Superpower, and the lack of bitterness (I understand the concept requires lower bittering additions ergo lower IBU) left, for me, a hole in the beer.

Even 10 more IBUs would have made a positive difference (IMO), but if I understand correctly it wouldn't have been a New England-style IPA then.

But--I do remember making a Lawson's clone, Sip of Sunshine I think, from BYO (which, me being me, I brewed with Achouffe yeast and added brett...) and I didn't feel like it had such a low amount of bitterness as the Codename:Superfan sixer I had 4 beers from. So I don't fucking know.

Station 26 Chinook is excellent, though. I'm home-brewing an all-Chinook brett IPA next as a direct consequence. This is a hop that isn't costing pro brewers $36 a pound at Lupulin Exchange, either, so I bet we start to see a lot more of it around.

Unlike many others, I actually prefer a west-coast style IPA (in general) to the NE style IPA for the reasons you mentioned. I find the style to be a bit too much like fruit juice

Isn't it en vogue for popular beer to taste like anything except beer?

I just knocked down a can of Superfan thanks to the recommendation of @tylerstravis and I must say, it's very good beer! I mean, it's no Tree House or Trillium but it's really good. Lacks the haze of an NE IPA (as it advertises on the can) but the nose is solid and the taste is even better. After drinking a bunch of NE IPAs over the past couple months I can't get enough of them, happy at least one brewery is trying to dabble in that style!

They may be having batch issues, mine was hazy, though not quite to the level of what I'm used to.

    Ryan from Odd13 here.

No batch issues, as all of the Codename: Superfan that has hit the market so far is the same (original) batch. The level of haze does vary a bit depending on how the cans are handled. For maximum haze, we do recommend gently rolling the can prior to opening.

For those who are interested, the second batch of Codename: Superfan will be identified by a label that says "This is a Test 2.0" instead of the current "This is a Test". We plan to up the haze (check out our current batch of Hop Troll: Equinox for an example of what we plan to start with), lower the bitterness (from 100 calculated to 80 calculated) and sub in Equinox for the current Citra. It should can on 11/22 and start hitting retail on 11/23.

Everyone was right, the Chinook from Station 26 was really nice and rivals Citra even though I generally prefer Citra as a hop. Time for another one!

Mile High had Station 26 6-packs on sale for a dollar off too. I picked up one of the Chinook packs, and I've got to say, it's 90% as good as fresh Citra was. I'm impressed!

Thanks, Ryan. Always appreciate the details you guys provide on your website and these forums. Any chance you can share your water adjustments and yeast for the home brewers out there trying to nail this style? Seems like these are the biggies, and I assume that's why folks are commenting about low perceived bitterness despite the calculated 100 IBU. High chloride/low sulfate? High chloride and sulfate? London III? Conan?
