I'll be traveling this year up to Lancaster to see some family during Thanksgiving and a little before in November as well. Anyone have any recommendations for spots to check out (bottle shops/bars) while up there? Thanks in advance.

    Bars/bottle shops:

    Friendly Greek
    Hunger N Thirst
Federal Taphouse (100 beers on tap)
    The Fridge
Annie Baileys (I'd avoid it Friday and Saturday evenings, as it gets really crowded)
    American Bar and Grill
    Bully's
Aroogas (local-ish chain place. They advertise how cold their beer is. If you can get past that, they tend to have a decent tap list, and some solid bar type food)

There are also a whole bunch of breweries to check out. Some in and around Lancaster:

    Spring House
    Lancaster Brewing Company
    Iron Hill
    Wacker
    Mad Chef
    Columbia Kettle Works
    Moo Duck
    Appalachian Brewing Co

There are also a few good ones within about an hour of Lancaster, such as Troegs and Victory.

What area of NC are you coming from? Mountain, piedmont, inner coastal or outer coastal? What general area are you staying in Lancaster, PA? Having lived in NC and PA for the majority of my life I think I can swing you in the right direction, while very respectfully disagreeing with TheNightwatchman on things to do/drink.

I'm in Wilmington, NC and will be staying in Ephrata. @jdaddy

As someone who lives in Ephrata and very close to their brewery I would recommend checking out St. Boniface.

Yeah, you have good times in your future for sure. I was attempting to quantify if you are coming from a lack luster area of NC (which Wilmington certainly qualifies) and if you were staying in Lancaster, Lancaster or if you are in Lancaster County, which you are in Lancaster County. Shoot me an private message with your email address and I will give you pretty solid directions on an approach to this area. You are welcome to post them here if people need same.

This is a solid recommendation for that area. If you are in Ephrata and want to grab a growler, then certainly, without hesitation, go to St. Boniface. If you want food, family area, etc then we can go down that route.

Black Forest, while tiny, is another great option in Ephrata besides St. Boniface.

I highly suggest St. Boniface in Ephrata, Hunger N Thirst and The Fridge in Lancaster, and Bulls Head in Lititz.

Any places in Lancaster have Bourbon County on Black Friday last year?

Friendly Greek, Hunger and Thirst, The Fridge, and Mollys all received some BCBS, BCBBW, Vanilla Rye and BCBCS. There may have been other places but these are the ones that I am aware of.

Bulls Head in Lititiz is a great trip, nice little town to walk around and a couple other decent beer stops in town as well.

Those are the ones I know for sure as well. I bought mine at The Fridge. Only managed to get regular BCBS in bottles, but I also was able to get some BCBBW on tap while there.

Thanks to everyone for the info and I really appreciate you all sharing your recommendations. Looking forward to seeing what's around once I get into town!

I grew up in Lancaster and visit my parents there quite frequently. The others in this thread have covered most everything I would suggest.

From Ephrata if you are up for a drive you'd have a fairly easy trip to Victory, Troegs or Stouts. Either way I think breweries and/or local bars are a good way to support small business Saturday. (Although, Last year we went to Troegs for this, and it was super crowded).

If anyone is interested in a IP trade on Black Friday, feel free to hit me up. See you guys out there in line.

After a recent visit, I'd also recommend Chatty Monks in Reading. It's not hard to get to from the Lancaster area. I was really impressed.

I thought the milk stout was good. Same with the Galactic IPA. Miners' Wench was solid. My girlfriend had the Fuggley, which I was less impressed with.

    And yes, good food.

If you plan to go to Victory, the brewpub at Parkesburg may be closer than their Downington location. Their Parkesburg location is new (a week old I think).
