I would try it, but I would rather pay $200 for one bottle of good bourbon or Scotch than something made by Sam Adams.

Anyone know of a place in the Boston metro west area that has it? Missed it yesterday in Framingham by a few hours.

Found it at Julios. And for a very decent price!

How did you go about getting your glass? The tag on the neck of the bottle has no code and I live in a state that is APPROVED for shipment to. I just got off the horn with Sam Adams Customer Service and they advised that I needed to register my bottle of Utopias on the site to get a code for a Reidel tasting glass? Yet they were unable to supply the correct site and I searched and cant find anything?

I'm in the same boat (no code on tag). Haven't bothered to call yet.

Saw one at Julios's outside of Boston last week for $189. I don't mind spending money on beer, but that's way too much. Pass.

Saw this in Grand Rapids for $209. Fondled it for a few minutes but decided to pass, just too much for 1 beer. Bought a 4er of Backwoods Bastard instead and saved $190.

Would love to try it though and reading that you can open it and enjoy throughout the year makes it more tempting...but not tempting enough.

Just out of curiosity, post a photo of the plain white box on the tag. You think that would kind of be a big deal.

Unless they did not include the code since you reside in a state where it is illegal to provide a free item after alcohol purchase.

These are the states where the free Utopias glass offer is void:

**Due to legal regulations, the coupon offer cannot be redeemed to ship to the following states: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. Orders shipping to any of these states will be cancelled.**

Insanely good price, too. Just remember this 'beer' can be stored for years after you open it like a brandy, cognac, etc. It's an 'experience' investment for most of us that get it. Not a crack it and pound it back in one night sort of thing, lol. I bring mine out every new years and share with friends. For 3-4 years of that per bottle...it's worth it. Just my opinion though.

Would pilferage be a possibility? The boxes are not sealed. Maybe a discussion with the retailer is in order. I bought a bottle, (can't wait til the holidays to try it), but I had the manager open the box, remove the bottle, and show me the tag and bottom of the bottle. The code is in bold printing on the tag; can't miss it. The date and bottle number are on the bottom. He didn't mind. This is serious dough for beer/liqueur.

My bottle has the code attached to the tag, but the code isn't valid. I've emailed Sam Adams, but haven't received a response. Happened to me once before and they were on top of it right away. Hopefully they sort it out this time as well.

Unless I'm just extremely unfortunate to have not tried it, I can't see the point in buying Utopias. If i'm going to spend $200+ USD for flavours I can get out of particular spirits, I'd much rather go the spirits route. I suppose if I had too much money that was burning a hole in my pocket, I would think about buying a bottle but other than that, I don't understand the appeal.

Was in the Boston area this past weekend and found a bottle at Julio's for $189 plus tax. Tried to redeem the code for the 'free' glass yesterday and, while the site accepted the code, it did not discount the $18 for the glass. Tried it a couple times and ended up calling customer service. They took all my info and said they would contact me today. Later last night, I tried with a different internet browser (Chrome) and had no problems. Order was confirmed and I got a confirmation email this morning.

It seems ridiculous that the bottles sent to California (or other states that they can't legally send glasses) are coming without the promo code. I have so many friends out of state that are coming to visit for the holidays, I could ship it to any of them and have them bring it along with them.

I just picked one up at Total Wine in VA. The clerk said they'd gotten 27 bottles to sell and were turning away their regular customers on the first day so that they could save some for their VIP Members. Well, those customers went and bought out the TW stores in Maryland who weren't holding back, while only 5 of the VIPs showed up to get their bottles, so now, a week later, the MD stores all sold out in a day and the VA ones still had plenty for non-VIP plebeians like me! Just a funny situation I thought I'd share. Sadly though, no coupon for the glass, but maybe I'll send an email asking for one.

And to all the haters who "just can't see the point" or "would rather buy liquor for that price," we get it. Nobody actually thinks that Utopias is worth $200 based on flavor alone. It's about the reputation, prestige, uniqueness, and experience. I've had $100-$200 scotches and not once have I thought "this is exactly 4 times better than a $50 scotch!" Utopias still has almost as much alcohol as many expensive spirits I've had (and more than many ports, sherrys, amontillados, etc.), just as strong a flavor profile and stronger, and lasts as long in the bottle after it's opened. Saying Utopias is to beer what a 25 year old single-malt is to scotch is a huge understatement and you're missing the point. Utopias is beyond beer, and it can't be substituted. That's like saying "Flying to outer space is too expensive, I'd rather just go on a roller coaster." Those who want to live a simple, ascetic life and never splurge on a special gift (special for whatever reason you deem it special), then you can't and won't understand why people buy Utopias and I hope your lives are richer for it, but please don't hate on us. For those of you who have ever bought the LS version of their sedan or the $180 watch over the $35 Timex or the Raddisson suite over the Motel 6, shut up, get off this thread, and let us enjoy our special beers.

Ah, thanks for that list; surprised CA has such a law, but I didn't really buy Utopias for the free(ish) $18 glass, so no biggie.
