The only better news would be if they were opening a second location in Rochester...

I just checked their beer list and out of 57 taps all just common stuff not 1 even slightly uncommon beer, I was really excited about this place and now it just seems like a locally owned Old Chicago.:slight_frown: They are going to be upstairs from Prime bar and have almost the same list I wonder how that will work.

Good thing uncommon beers aren't the only tasty ones.

C'mon - they have some really good beers.

if they had all "uncommon beers," would they still be uncommon?

Hopefully the service at the uptown location will be better than the service at the seven corners location. I've had great service at the bar in seven corners, but completely awful service numerous times in the patio. After fifteen minutes of waiting to be acknowledged by a server on my last visit my group up and left. The time before that it took ten minutes for the server to take our order, then five minutes later he came back to ask what we wanted again because he had forgotten. Five minutes later (twenty minutes after we sat down) we got our first round of beers.

Good for them. Although I'd like one even closer to the South Metro.

I never once said ALL of their beers need to be uncommon or rare NOR did I say common beers are not tasty but if you want to draw in business you need to make it worth the trip. The first one was opened across the street from Town Hall Brewing so if I'm going to go all the way to seven corners for a beer it's not going to be at Republic for a beer I can get at most bars. That is why places like The Bulldog, The Happy Gnome, The Muddy Pig, Blue Nile and others have the following that they do because of the selection of good beers common or not along with a few things you will only find at 1 or 2 places for example I drove 20 minutes to the Muddy Pig last February or March because they had Curmudgeon's Better Half on tap not because they had Moose Drool, Victory Prima Pils or Bells Oberon on tap (or the 54 others that Republic has) if I wanted those I could stay close to my house and not go out of my way.

    Just my 2cents. Cheers!!!!!!

I've had several bad experiences with their service, both at the bar and at a table.

Do most bars typically list their "uncommon" beers on their website taplist? Seems to me, one keg goes too quickly to ever make the list.

Yes the ones that are any good do look at The Muddy Pig, The Happy Gnome and others. But if you want to go out of your way for average beer then that is your choice. To each their own. And as a new business that is focused on beer you probably should if you want to get people into your establishment.

I've loved our visits to Republic. Their happy hour good is excellent, & the beer is wonderful. They might not have the latest barrel-aged-pumpkin served in a glass slipper RIGHT NOW, but anybody who scoffs at that beer list is...jaded, to say the least.

Just another point I thought of, new bars don't get special release beers very easily since those kegs would come out of the hands of an established customer. I actually have never been to Republic, so I really have no idea what it is like. Stanley's in Nordeast always had a pretty boring (but very good) craft tap list...but just recently started getting a few more of the special release stuff. It can take a bit of time.

I'm not looking for the latest hipster beer I think you missed my point in my other post in this thread, and to your point out of the 30 or so people I have talked about Republic with in-person or online you and 3 others have said good things the 26 others have said pretty bad to down right horrible things(look at what KarlHungus and sacrelicio said a few posts back) and when I compile that with a mediocre beer list it makes me not even interested in going, don't get me wrong I love more beer forward bars in the Twin Cities but some get it right and some follow the heard.

    No hard feelings.
    Cheers!!!!

I've heard the complaints about the service too. We've never had anything but good service there, so perhaps my experiences have been atypical, but I'll keep going back.

As for mediocre beer list, we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Just at a glance there are several beers I don't see on tap much (both Steel Toes, Duchesse, Founders Red Rye, etc.) as well as plenty of standouts that I'm always happy to chug. The fact the you think it's mediocre is a tribute to just how spoiled we've gotten!

Anyways, I know someone who works there, & I'll pass on what you guys have said the next time I'm in the area.

Touche, point taken and your right we are too spoiled. I have no ill will towards Republic or its owners I think like you said getting too spoiled makes my expectations too high for new beer joints, Also I don't mean to come across as an asshole but my recent loss off my job has me upset in general so thanks for putting up with my ranting.:flushed:
