Hop stand/steep with or without a bag does it matter?

    when I do my "whirlpool" hops post boil I use a bag and swirl. Curious if using a bag is better, worse or irrelevant to just throwing the hops in naked a letting them steep?

    I agree as well and when I dry hop or add them in the boil I go naked. I was also thinking that the active swirling will also pull more aroma and flavor.

    One benefit of naked steep is more clean up time.

    I used to do all naked additions. But a DIPA I did a couple months ago I put all my Whirkpool additions into Muslin bags and the beer was one of the best I've ever done. Just keep actively poking around at the bags to ensure they get fully saturated. Wouldn't do more than 4 oz of pellets per muslin bag.
