If reg BCBS is $15-20 per bottle I will...

  1. Buy fewer bottles than what I really want

    62.8%
  2. Buy about 3-5 bottles and call it a day

    24.1%
  3. Buy as many bottles I can find still. Price is no object.

    13.1%

The distributor should ship when it is convenient for them. It's the retailers responsibility to keep it off the shelves until the release date. It's not the in the distributors best interest to demand the retailer not sell their product until a certain date unless they want to piss people off, so yeah, you're going to end up with lots of retailers not paying attention and bringing in the money a little early.

Sure, there is certainly a difference between a mark up and price gouging. I'll definitely give you that. I guess I would go with the old adage here, "vote with your wallet." If it offends some to spend this kind of $ or to spend significantly above MSRP, then don't buy it. I presume that some who say they won't buy due to being offended by mark-up are kidding themselves, unless double MSRP is being charged, then of course I can't justify that as you have pointed out.

As is your's, and I was just estimating. I was able to get 12 oz singles of coffee for the $5.50-$6.00 range last year, and now it's going for $12.99(probably the low end of the markup pool too) for 16.9 ounces. That's a 50-70% increase, which is closer to double than it is a 29% increase. 12 oz bottles were also more convenient IMO.

It will sell out instantly everywhere. Its called disposable income. Some people have it, some people don't.

2 weeks ago I was saying I'd be good with 1 or 2 of each (Regrualr, Coffee, BW) and no regal and rare. As the day draws nearer, I find my inner thoughts trying to rationalize more and more.

Where I stand now: Max limit on reg, coffee, and BW. At least 1 Regal and Rare should I come across it. By the 27th, I just know I'll get what I can at the event I go to and then spend the next few hours pulling drive by's for more.

I'll be in unfamiliar territory though, so that blows. Wish I could be in Dallas where I know my spots.

Nope, we "All" will not be buying one. You're free to buy what would have been mine though.

it is my favorite beer hands down
If i was to see any regular or variants of it on the shelf i would buy as much that my budget could handle.
I also think rare is accurately priced at $60.
If coffee is around $12 that is the deal of the century. (the 2015 version blew me away)
I will be ISO rare for as long as there are bottles of it. (to me) it was THAT good

Cost to stores/bars on BCBS regular this year is in the $7/$8 per bottle range. Coffee is more, Regal is much more, and Rare, is insanely expensive at cost.

Last year I paid $27.99 for a four pack of BCBS and $27.99 for one bomber of the Vanilla Rye. I live in New York where everything is twice as expensive as everywhere else, so I can only imagine what the prices will be a week from today at my local beer store.

I'm aware it's a smaller size, but I actually like Uncle Jacobs more than BCBS. I think if you rationalize things in terms of cost per ounce it stops you from trying a lot of good beers. While overall cost does come into consideration, it's important to balance that with expanding your palate to unique beers. I know a fair amount of people that will never try Uncle Jacobs because it's $16 a bottle, which is expensive but I think is worth trying at least once.

I agree every batch of Jacob's I've had has been awesome. BCBS on the other hand, I've had a fair share of bottles let me down since trying it the first time. Just pointing out that we are paying a premium if the two bottles were priced the same. And it is a premium I will pay every time.

Retail price of the regular 4 packs were $21.99 last year, so $5.49 per 12 oz bottle. $5.49/12 oz = $.46/oz. $.46/oz * 16.9 oz = $7.73 if the larger bottle was sold at last year's price. $7.73 at last years prices to $9.99 this year, $7.73*1.29 = $9.97 (rounding error off). You didn't mention coffee until now. My math is right.

But hey, let's look at coffee, sounds like fun to me! I can't share the exact numbers, but looking at the prices this year and last year at your local wholesaler, you've still way overshot the target saying the cost has gone up 50%-70%. If there's a 50%-70% increase per oz to the customer, then the store is gouging you pretty hard.

In regards to the original poll question, I will take option 4. I will not be purchasing any bcbs bottles.

I agree, it will absolutely sell out immediately, but it's not all about disposable income. Rarity, hype, ticking, getting that untappd tick...

Someone mentioned above I believe but it does seem that beer, well limited beer, is more about chasing and obtaining the beer than it is about the beer itself. In some cases people do not even end up drinking the beer they are chasing but rather consider the new limited release as a Beer Trading Currency ATM so the beer can be used to trade for other beers.

It's like the thrill of the beer chase is an adrenaline rush for craft beer enthusiasts. Ah this limited beer is being released here, how am I going to get it. Lining up for it? Trading for it? Getting a buddy to grab it? Try luck in distro (if applicable)? Quite interesting from a behavioral standpoint anyway.

65 for 16.9, is ~96 for a 25oz (750ml)...sure its insane for a beer, but theres plenty of wine at that price too. Considering the ABV is similar to wine too, its like a pricey bottle of wine.

not saying anyone here is going to leap after those either, but its not completely unrealistic

Note: i probably wouldnt buy one with out a few bottle buddies to split it with
