If reg BCBS is $15-20 per bottle I will...

  1. Buy fewer bottles than what I really want

    62.8%
  2. Buy about 3-5 bottles and call it a day

    24.1%
  3. Buy as many bottles I can find still. Price is no object.

    13.1%

I won't be buying BCBS this year, I would not be able to get any as I work on Black Friday, and I'm really not that interested. Might buy some if I come across some maybe to trade.

I am leaning heavily to not really chasing this year. If I get a bottle or two, great, but the price point and new bottle size are enough of a turnoff to me. I will be looking locally I think, and that's it.

REGARDLESS of personal opinions on the like-ability of BCBS and it's "limited release" each year (obviously not limited to those in Chicago) does anybody ponder over other things about this beer? I mean, Goose Island said the 16.9oz bottle should "heighten" the experience of a barrel aged beer as opposed to the 12oz bottle... So obviously the beer itself would go up in price (understandable) but they upped the price of the beer per ounce. WHY? I thought that I heard that Goose Island acquired more equipment/space/whatever to brew more BCBS but now there is an uproar that this years supply of BCBS is more limited because of the bottle size change. WHY AGAIN!?

With so many good breweries popping up all over the place there are far to many better options at a much lower price point

I hear you, and I agree with you. But I'm not sure it's more limited this year. It still "hasn't been released", there are lots of retailers who actually wait until the proper time to sell and I've had a couple retailers tell me they are being more protective of it this year(the distributors). Meaning locally, nobody has it yet. Last year on this day, I actually cleaned up on BC stuff(stout and barleywine only) by hitting local grocery stores. Couldn't do that this year, which basically took the advantage I had away from me(not waiting in lines), which informed my thought process of not chasing.

The fact that this is not only the first American stout to kick off the barrel aging craze, it's still at the top of its class and what other stouts (your "better and lower prices options")are compared to.

First of all just because you have been doing something longer doesn't make you the best at it and if you hop off the hype train you will see the other options out there

I have a cellar full of 2013 & 2014 but when my bottle shop owner told me there would not be any variants coming this year, not even Barleywine I suddenly lost all interest. I never saw Coffee or Proprietor's but without the Barleywine, all of a sudden the whole thing seems stupid.I won't be chasing and will probably get 1 or 2 bottles and call it a day. Now, I am waiting for Sucaba.

At that price, I would buy zero Bourbon County Stout. I still have plenty of the regular Bourbon County from 2014, not to mention some going back to 2012.

I would buy a single bottle of the Barleywine at that price. I would consider getting Regal Rye for $15. Not interested in the other three variants.

Where I live reg bc will be $10 a pop and the coffee and barely are $12 each. Regal rye $22 and Rare for $60Way too much). South florida actually got it right this time around as far as pricing goes. lol.

So if I like a beer that's been around here for a good amount of time, and is relative easy to get without waking up early or getting in line (in MA) I'm now on a hype train? There are other options but it's a fantastic beer to which many are measured against. Just wondering does this train have a quiet car?

If the msrp is $10.99/16.9oz and retailers actually abide to this price, it comes to 65 cents/oz. Which equates to $14.30 for a bomber. At that price point regular BCS is still a bargain compared to other limited release BA stouts that would be considered an equivalent. As everything in the world goes up in in price, it's inevitable that the price of BCS goes up as well. Finally, when it did make a drastic change from years past everyone wants to cry foul. At least this is a once a year occurrence as opposed to the ever increasing cost of food, which is an everyday necessity.

For what it's worth, I was told that only 29 bottles of BCBS Rare will be coming to Northern California and most of those will be given as gifts to Budweiser distributors. I don't buy & sell beer but the crazy thing is that I've heard chatter and speculation that secondary markets for something that "rare" could support a $500+ dollar per bottle resale price which makes the $64 OTC price seem pretty sweet.

Does anyone know if there will be a big release in the LA area like they had at Ramirez last year?

Up until a couple months ago, I was told there was still dome of the 2014 around here. With the new prices of these 500ml bottles, they may stick around for a while too. In some cases, beer is higher here than on the mainland.

I still have a mixed case of reg 2012-14, so I have no interest in buying any this year. That coupled with how good Central Water BB Stouts have been makes me not really care about the Goose any more.
