Well, here we go with the third (HAT TRICK!), and most likely final, entry for my NBS today!
    Prairie BOMB!

Let's hope this one lives up to the hype...

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. No visible dating.
Pours a deep dark black body with the thinnest amount, if any at all, of head on top.
Aromas of chocolate and coffee and vanilla...Duh, right?! Mouth watering immediately!!
Taste....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! WOW! So balanced with all the adjuncts. Chocolate and vanilla and coffee right away, a little amount of heat from the peppers on the end. Just great!
Full mouth feel not a hint of alcohol heat, 13% abv...seiously?! Where? D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S!
Overall, so worth the $8.99 price tag for a 12 oz. bottle, which I have always said I wouldn't spend, but...Had to do it when I saw this one available! So much going on with this one all the flavors just compliment each other and follow each other like a 1, 2, 3 punch! If you find this...PICK IT UP! Nothing disappointing about this one at all!
    Cheers!!

The oats Surly uses in this beer reduce the heat and help balance the Citra/Warrior hop combo. Yes, I know too much about this beer, but it's my favorite.

Thank You brother! I now know I am not alone! Since I've tasted Abyss, a few local brews came out with similar aroma/flavor compounds. Same reaction :slight_frown:.

Happy New Westy 12 Sunday! Cracked open something special to celebrate finally moving into my new (first) house. This beer is absolutely magnificent. This bottle is about a year and a half old. The dark fruit flavors come through in ways that I may not have ever experienced. I would gladly drink more of these bottles if it were that easy to get my hands on them.

You're right...plus shipping to Florida would be more expensive than shipping to Pennsylvania! :stuck_out_tongue:

    Small batch apricot sour
    Bottled 9-9-15
Received in the mail from @Avelasquez80 Thanks for this and the rest of the goodies! Thick and foggy pour, with a color like pineapple/orange juice. Small white head is gone in a flash. Nose is mild sour fruit and white wine. There isn't a ton of flavor here, just a nice bit of delicate apricot. The fruit really starts to shine in the aftertaste, though. Not too sour, not too fruity. All around just well balanced, with a soft mouthfeel.

After several days of long drives, starting in FL, this evening I'm back at my mom's house in WV following a funeral yesterday in OH. Picked up a 6 of these at grocer in OH (have not any FFF brews previously) and looking forward to it - "Gumballhead" a wheat beer:

    Cool art work. Bottled 10-21-15?

Hazy pale gold with 2 fingers of loose white foam (note to self: stash some beer glasses at mom's house). Spotty lace to start. Ok cap with some retention.

Lemongrass and biscuit nose. Lemongrass and semi sweet lemon head candy taste, with a lite bitter hop finish. Moderate carbonation and lite mouthfeel. Zesty lemon linger. Light, easy drinking beer - I like. Probably drink another while mom dials up Sunday Night football. Cheers y'all!

Big time beer envy, here. It seems like it is a beer version of a Mounds Bar, which I love. Hopefully with Oskar Blues setting up shop in Austin next year, the wait will be short-lived!

Ok, another half day at work done, time for some fun on New Beer Sunday.

Sleep Walker Tripple IPA (yes, tripple IPA) from LTD Brewing in Hopkins, MN - 11.5% ABV and 135 IBU!

    Yes, I am crazy.

I like how it pours, a lot like motor oil. A moderate head, and some lacing when the tulip is swirled. The lighting in my apartment isn't the best, but it appears to have an amber color to it. The nose is hops. Sweet, sweet hops.

    Ok, time for the tasting.

Wow! It is mellow, and smooth, for a second, then the hops kick in big time. You get that hop bite really hard. For a hop head, like me, it is delicious. The second sip is just as good as the first. This is a very impressive beer, and I have to give it a 4.75 out of 5. I really like this beer, and hope that sometime I can get another bottle.

I've never posted on NBS before, but in honor of some great beers from @Prager62 I'm going to try it. Disclaimer: I don't usually review beers, because I don't believe my palate is distinguished enough, so this is for entertainment purposes only! So here goes:

Greenbush Barrel Aged The One And Only - ale brewed with raspberries.
I'm a big fan of fruit beers, and you don't usually see them barrel aged, so I was excited about this beer. It didn't disappoint me. The first thing to hit you on this beer is the whiskey smell, but the raspberries are there underneath. The taste continues the strong whiskey flavor, but the raspberry is very pronounced. There is a quick-dissolving head with decent lacing. It has heavy carbonation, which works for me on a fruit beer. The bottle says this is 7% ABV, not the 9% listed on this site. I've never had the base beer, but I'm guessing it has good raspberry, based on how strong it comes through the barrel aging. This is my third beer from Greenbush, and I have yet to be disappointed. Great beer I will look for again.

My palate isn't very sophisticated either, but I do like to review beers. It is a lot of fun to describe what you get from the beer.

New Beer Sunday: New Pale Ale (some say American, some say Tropical)

Evenin' NBSers, with special salutations to all you pursuers of practically perfect pale ales.

Well the weather here today was chilly and dry, with overcast skies throughout the day, but things did clear a bit at sunset when we saw the "Red Skies at Night" which are "a Sailor's delight."

Spent most all of the day getting caught up on things not done last Sunday when we had miles to go to find that fork in the road that the late Yogi Berra advised us all to take when we came to it.

This evening's new beer is from Boulevard Brewing in Kansas City and is their Collaboration No. 5 - Tropical Pale Ale, a collaboration with Cigar City Brewing. Unlike some collaboration brews, this one worked out reasonably well and I suspect each of the Breweries learned a few useful things from the other.

As usual my review (which is subject to revision until I've finished the beer) can be found here:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/174530/?ba=drtth

On the whole this is an interesting beer which I don't think I'd add to my regular fridge rotation but which is worth revisiting once in a while as long as supplies last. There are a lot of interesting tropical fruit flavors from the use of the hops and not much going on that I'd hold against the beer except maybe a touch too much sweetness in the finish. If you like tropical fruit hops see about giving this one a try.

This evening's music has been from my all time favorite Mozart Opera, La Nozze di Figaro, and I've been listening to a Metropolitan Opera Guild highlights CD that includes many different historical performances at the Met. (A few of the recordings were made 100 years ago or more....) No highlights collection would be complete without including some famous ladies singing this aria.

Dove Sono performed by Gundula Janowitz. (Who is not on the CD but....)

(For those who want to know in English what that lady is singing about there is a translation on the web.)

What is the deal with cat astronauts on purple beer labels? Not to be petty or create controversy but just a little strange...
