Beer brewed with sake yeast.

    There is definitely a wide variety of Sake, and a massive difference between the good and bad stuff! Thrown into that mix is the fact that Okinawa is home to a few other special variants as well (he may have been talking about Awamori - the cheap stuff has a reputation of being really bad).

    Hell, even cheap Okinawa beer tastes really bad compared to the mainland macro stuff!

    That, and the fact that he doesn't exactly have a refined pallet when it comes to this kind of thing.

    I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure Sake is fermented with ale yeast. So is wine and bread. Obviously this is a very broad category of yeast. Look at the variations in fermentation-related flavours from Trappisst, Hefeweizens, Bitters, IPAs, etc.
