Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg will be tapping a keg at 10 on Thanksgiving.

Wow, that price is out of hand.

I still have a four pack from last year with the $20.99 price tag on it, purchased somewhere in Montgomery County. So that's about a 120% price increase.

They are 500ml (16.9oz) bottles this year, FWIW.

17 ounces for $15 is 88 cents per ounce. Or $15 per 17 ounce serving.
48 ounces for $21 is 43 cents per ounce. Or $5.25 per 12 oz serving.

Sorry, my math was slightly off. Still, a 100+% (not quite 120%) increase in price per volume. Or almost 300% if you consider one bottle as one serving. (And unless you're splitting it with a friend, how much value is that extra 4.9 ozs really giving you?)

Someone made a similar argument about Rare when the price point and bottle size were first announced. I think both the price increased and the volume decreased from 2010 which lead to a 60% or so price increase per fluid ounce. Possibly some of the AB Inbev influence at work.

Does anyone know if any bars in the Baltimore area will be at least tapping a keg of BCBS or any variants anytime soon? I've heard nothing, and either local spots are playing dumb or really don't know. My guess is they really don't know yet because the local GI distributor sucks ass

I believe they did the same thing last year, and sold it before black friday. I got 2 4-packs of regular last year.

They did sell early last year, but from my recollection they were 26ish for a 4 pack - a bit high but not this level. They are over 100% markup at this years prices

If you do a non-store specific search for the regular on Total Wine, the 16.9 oz bottle comes up with a price of 9.99 per, so hopefully that price, or ones just slightly higher, will hold up at a majority of the TW locations.

Curious about this as well. Max's always has a Black Friday event. I went last year in the evening and was still able to get coffee on draft. Their website and Facebook still says details coming soon for Black Friday. When I talked to them a couple weeks ago they definitely made it sound like something was going on with the distributor. I wish I knew what was going on so I can figure out where to go Friday. Also last year Ale Mary's in Fells Point had a keg of the regular. They had it on tap about a week after Black Friday.

Did anyone go to the Churchkey event last year? I might go and see it I can try a pour of Rare. Shit I might just go and drink a few pours of regular rather than chasing around $18 bottles.

Churchkey is typically a shit show. Don't get me wrong, I love that place and they have an amazing selection, but it seems like every beer geek in the DMV flocks there and so it can be really crowded to the point of being uncomfortable.

Jack Rose is doing an event on Wednesday (tomorrow) night, and will have all variants available. My hope is that it will be much lower key but who knows.

    Everything BUT Rare.

Last year we thought about doing the Churchkey Event but were able to grab all the varietals but Vanilla on growler from Whole Foods P St, which was just a great deal. It seemed like some people went directly from Whole Foods to Churchkey, but not many.

Which location will not have rare? I was under the impression that both were getting some.

There were 3 cases at Cork 57 in Bethesda as of an hour ago, no limit. Guy was asking 14.99 per bottle and said they got 10 cases. Agree this pricing is depressing but its still less than a buck an ounce. And these people aren't supposed to be putting their bottles out yet.

Is it going to just flood the market this year? I just picked up a case randomly running errands and stopping in beer stores nearby. I can't even imagine how many cases wegmans and whole foods are going to be sitting on.

In all industries, if you don't like pricing, you go to a competitor and look for a better deal. With beer, we don't do that. We gotta catch em all. This is the first time I've thought they have gone too far and now I'm rethinking how much I want, if any.

Bcbs is being priced like a Ferrari. There are plenty of amazing BA stouts that are high priced, but priced more like a Mercedes than a Ferrari. Is the quality gap between BCBS and beers like KBS, Parabola, BA speedway, BA rasputin, ba ten fidy, huna, dark lord, hell, even big bad baptist this large to justify the price gap? I don't think so. They're testing us now...
