Over/Underrated Beers of 2015

Underrated: Boulevard Heavy Lifting (overshadowed more than underrate)
Overrated: Prairie BOMB!

Overrated: Just about any wet hop ale
Underrated: Sixpoint Jammer

Habanero Sculpin
Half Acre Daisy Cutter Pale Ale
Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero
Descutes The Abyss

Underrated:
Jever
Straub Hefeweizen
Long Trail Harvest
Odell Barrel Thief

 

Like you my tastes think pepper infused beers are over rated.

Under rated

Siren Noire from Heavy Seas

 

People saying Jammer must not get any good Gose distribution.

 

Overrated: Guinness Nitro IPA. Yeah I dont care if its an English IPA or American IPA, this was a sorry excuse for an IPA.

 

I'll use the terms "disappointed" and "pleasantly surprised", since my taste is mine and not everyone else's.

Disappointed:

• SNPA
• Mirror Pond

Both of these have such a rep on this site, maybe my expectations were too high. I'm about as far from a hop-head as you can get, but, to my taste, both are too mild, too light on the bittering hops (with Mirror Pond even more mild than SNPA). Our local Summit EPA is better than these two to my taste.

Also disappointing:

• Brau Brothers Moo Joos - bland, borderline bad
• Surly Bitter Brewer 2015 - they turned this one into yet another hop water session IPA.

Pleasantly Surprised:

• pseudoSue
• Parapet ESB

With such a highly rated beer, "underrated" certainly does not apply to pseudoSue, but that also led me to believe it would be yet another over-hopped ale. Yes, it is obviously highly hopped, but it is also well-balanced and very flavorful.
Parapet ESB in cans was a major upgrade over the bomber I first tried in 2014. This is now an excellent ESB.

 

Overrated: Death by Coconut, was OK. BA Narwhal was just a disappointment.

Underrated: Imperial Cabinet; Bruery&Jester. Bourbon O.E; Smog City

 

Underrated:
SARA Farmhouse Noir - I really liked this one, but the BA ratings are so-so.

River Horse BA Berliner Weisse - The BA ratings are pretty bad; I didn't love this, but I thought it was solid.

Off Color/Side Project Corybantic - I know this doesn't stack up with the SP brews, but I thought it was really nice.

Overrated:
Not Your Father's Root Beer (5.9%) - I still don't get it. I think this stuff is truly terrible.

BC Rare 2015 - It pains me to say, but I was disappointed with Rare. It is all relative, though - it is still an excellent beer, just not nearly as good as I had expected.

Terrapin French Toasted W-n-B - Not bad, but disappointing.

Sam Adams Rebel Rider - The BA ratings are so-so, but I actually thought this was an awful beer.

Over: Evil Twin Cognac Jesus, any Peanut Butter beer, Lagunitas Brown Shugga & IPA, Bell's Expedition Stout, AtG Bo & Luke, Westy 12....

Under: Against the Grain 70K, Victory Harvest Ale, Pretty much any Omnipollo, 2nd Shift Don's Dirty Dozen, Any Country Boy Brewing, Lindeman's Cuvee Rene

 

Underrated: Yuengling's IPL For the price point and taste, this is a damn good beer, in my opinion!

 

Don't know if it counts since technically it came out originally last year... well I guess it was re-released this year. But I digress... Stone's Xocoveza is quite possibly my favorite release of their's ever. So I gotta put it in the underrated category for anyone saying anything other than it being awesome.

 

Under - Born Yesterday, Any Imperial Oak, Corybantic, The Calling.

Over - Mornin Delight (not a bad beer but worth no where near what it took to acquire), Madagasgar, ZD, Revolution BA (with the exception of straight jacket and deths tar), Abrasive, all of the Sculpins, CitruSinensis

 

Overrated:
DB Huna (sorry, it's waaaaaaaaay too sweet)

Fiddlehead Mastermind

Underrated:
2015 Silva Stout
18th St. Galaxy Slayer

 

Which beers that you've had this year were better than Mornin Delight. Asked differently...given the choice of drinking 8 ozs of Mornin Delight and any other beer you've had this year, which beers would you pick over MD?

 

Underrated: Jack's Abby Kiwi Rising DIPL, Night Shift Whirlpool, Lord Hobo Steal This Can, 4 Hands Resurrected IPA, Urban Chestnut Schnickelfritz and Pierre's Wit
Overrated: Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher, Founder's Harvest Ale, Wormtown Be Hoppy, Cigar City Jai Alai

 

I don't think Born Yesterday was underrated.. Everyone thinks it's amazing and it sold out immediately. The rating reflects that.
