If reg BCBS is $15-20 per bottle I will...

  1. Buy fewer bottles than what I really want

    62.8%
  2. Buy about 3-5 bottles and call it a day

    24.1%
  3. Buy as many bottles I can find still. Price is no object.

    13.1%

To answer the original question, I would buy 4 packs of BCBS at $25 all day. I would definitely buy a case if it were sitting on the shelf. I would self limit my purchase of $15 bottles, probably would buy 6 max. $20 bottles I would probably buy 4 or 5. So N=1 but I personally would be likely to spend larger amounts of money on the previous format. Moot point as I didn't go hunting and thus I don't think I will be purchasing any this year. Will likely trade for some, but not much.

I'm still excited about the variants, but this new format of the "standards" (regular, coffee and BW) has me significantly less enthused this year.

Got lucky and ran into some while in FL over Thanksgiving. Paid $16 for BCBS and $17 for Barleywine but figured it would be my only chance to pick it up it was 2 per person on each type.

In Cheyenne, they only had the standard BCBS, but it was $9.49 and limit was 1 case. Sooo I spent $120 on a case. I'm okay with this.

In RI and Mass, I paid 9.99 for regular BCBS and approx 11.49 for the barleywine, the only variant RI got.

I hate all the imperial stouts and barrel aged stouts coming out in bombers. It doesn't make sense to me to package these high abv stouts that way. I guess it works if you have a lot of friends with similar tastes, but I'd rather see an 8 oz than a 22 oz. Sometimes, you just want a nightcap and 22 oz is a commitment!

I was able to get 4 regs from one store @ $11.99 and 2 BW @ $13.99. Could have bought them all, but didn't  Seemed like they only had a case of each. Later I got 2 coffees @ $10.50 and a Regal Rye @ $20 from another store. Bar in my hood as all available on tap or bottles starting tonight, I hope to try the Rare. Last year prices for me in NYC were about $0.50 an OZ for regular now its $0.71 for regular. The higher price combined with fewer bottles is annoying, so overall I bought less than last year. But I can still find 2014 regular on the shelf in a few places.

Beer store is expensive and lots of old IPA. Try whole foods, Giant markets, your local beer distributor and take a trip to jersey or Delaware sometime. Whole foods you can find more interesting beers but the other spots will have good beer at much less than the beer store, not as big a selection though.

    Enjoy

same here, especially if it wasn't hard to obtain. It's the lines and such I don't care for. And no, nobody is being gouged.

I ran into a Rare and I bought it, yea $60 its steep for a 500 ml bottle. But I gauged the next time Rare might be around, it's been 7 years or so since the first, and my ability to find it. The money IMO was well spend, the distributors price was $50, so selling it for $60 is hardly earth shaking.

Regular was $10.50 at the Albertsons no limit (I only bought 3 to leave some for the next guy).
$10 at Total Wine limit 3
$11.99 for variants sold out before I got to there about 30 people in front of me.
$23.99 for regal rye they said they had it but I did not see it.
Local bar selling to go bottles were $30 all bcbs / coffee / barley and $75 for regal rye. I was number 12 and coffee and rye were already sold out.

Your point is well taken. Just for clarification though, it's been exactly 5 yrs since the first rare was sold.
