Surly Abrasive in Chicago

Hath no fear, there are like 800+ cases getting shipped out for distro, so itll hit again in the next week or two

 

Haven't seen it in Schaumburg, Arlington, Palatine...doubt we'll see it honestly.

 

I had no trouble getting it in these areas last go around.

 

I didn't have it last year, but thought it was just ok this year. Good, but not worth the hype.

 

I was blown away by it in February. This time around...good but not great like I had remembered it. Personally I put Todd the Axeman above this release of Abrasive.....definitely not worth the pricepoint

 

They had a few 4 packs left (no limit) at the Plum Market in Old Town on Friday. I'd imagine it's gone now, but it's worth a check...

 

I was in town last week on business and found 4-packs at Garfields near the airport. Picked it up, saw it was $17.99 and put it back. Picked up a $10 4-pack of Half Acre to bring home instead. $4.50 a beer is ridiculous. That's more per can than I pay back home for The Alchemist, Tree House, Lawson's, etc.

 

There are still a few 4 packs of the 10/27 batch left at the LP Whole Foods.

 

The price you have to pay for Abrasive goodness.

I will admit Surly seems to be on the higher side, but we have seen Abrasive at the $15/$16 ($13 at Costco) range in the Twin Cities, which appears to be close to on par with the beer you have listed. I would expect to see it a little pricier outside of the home market.

 

Understanding everything needed to make a high ABV super hoppy DIPA/IIPA - I'm okay w/ anything from about $12-$16 (4 pack of tall boys), but yah, that $18 was quite the sticker shock.

 

Have we seen a second batch?

 

Got the last 4 pack from the fridge at whole foods on Tuesday. "Oh I'm happy to go grocery shopping, dear..."

For me the tallboy can is the best ipa/dipa vessel and even at $18 its ounce wise way cheaper than a similar beer in a bomber.

 

Binny's Grand location this PM said not sure if they will be getting anymore.

 

I just found a 4 pack of the original 10/27 batch at Binny's Bollingbrook. I was told it was the last one.

 

Anyone know of anywhere on the NW side that still has some? Never been able to try this...

 

Binnys on grand has 6 cases, limit 2 4 packs. They also have a ton of Death by Coconut.

 

The cans at Grand were dated 11/11/15, which is awesome, and fresher than the date on bottles of Zombie Dust the day they hit the city after going through distro purgatory.

 

If you're in Andersonville, La Primera has one 4-pack left. It's behind the counter, so you have to ask for it.

 

Binny's in NW Burbs got it in yesterday. Was there at Des Plaines this afternoon.

 

Readily available in the Elgin area, seems to have been an additional shipment.
