Their single hop series has been worth checking out.

One and done. Never. Two and done. Yes. Bottom line - one and done is like judging a book by its cover.
Two and done is opening it up and at least reading the table of contents.

These guys are doing an ipa with a rare/wild hop right?

That's correct. Linalool IPA with hops discovered in Sun Prairie, WI.

The only thing I really liked from Flying Dog was their single-hop. I always thought they were overrated in Virginia.

There are several for me..If I do not like anything in the first two or three beers I try, I will usually pass. I try to start with styles I like. There are too many beers I like to drink instead of buying beers from a decent brewery where the brewer has a different taste in beer from what I enjoy.

Only one I can think of is BOSS Browar Witnica S.A. I thought their Black Boss Porter was so bad, I've never looked to see if they have anything else on the shelf. Baltic porters are one of the styles I like too.

Not one but two flat Hair Of The Dog beers. Done with them. Also two terrible Indian Wells beers. Never again.

"...hoppy, harsh and alcoholic...": Three perfect descriptors for all of their high ABV hoppy beers.

Some of their better beers are seasonal/rare-ish... Gonzo Imperial Porter is fairly awesome, IMO.

I recently picked up a Gonzo, because all I've ever had is their IPAs. I haven't tried it yet.

I tend to follow a "3 strikes and you're out" method with breweries. It's not an iron clad rule but if I have a few beers from a brewery in styles I typically enjoy, and they miss the mark, it's unlikely that I'll consider that brewery's offerings going forward.

2 of the 3 beers you mentioned are fruit beers, maybe you just don't like that lol?

Ironically, I love fruit beers. Maybe that's why I was so turned off.

I've never written off a brewery just off of one bad beer - and I likely never will.

The closest I've come to doing that is with Manor Hill in my very own state. My first beer from them (Citra Splendor) was mediocre, but nothing horrible.

Beer #2 WAS pretty poor (The Gathering), what made it hurt even more was that it was a wet-hop ale with the hopping level of a macro beer. Tasted like an amber ale Blue Moon/Coors would make, too.

And then I sampled their Mojito Sour Blonde...worst sour beer I've ever had. It was literally like drinking spoiled cheese with a splash of actual mojito.

It's going to take a LOT of prodding for me to consider purchasing a beer from these guys again.

Paradox. Actually went 3 deep on them, should never have went past one.

So after grabbing a WATERMELON beer, you have written off the entire line from the brewery??

    Well played..

Goose Island core brews, not really bad, not really good. I don't hate them, I just suffer from apathy. Bcbs and stuff doesn't count.

Thank you. It's not that I've written then off entirely - I just find myself avoiding them, because of my previous experience. When deciding what to buy, I usually go with something I'm pretty sure will be better. Several people here have mentioned one of their IPAs. I may have to try it. Just wondering if others find themselves avoiding breweries after one bad experience. Apparently I'm not alone.
