Whoops! Tapped reply before I was done.

If someone did really change their plans, then I am sorry. I assume I'm pretty notorious for joking around on that page, and shouldn't be taken seriously, there's tons of dudes on there that do it. My apologies.

If I receive thank you beers, that's on them, I don't ask for anything when muling.

I'm really sorry that this is upsetting a lot of people, my intentions for the actual mule was all good. I'm sure you can imagine the time spent meeting people, messaging and tracking people down etc.

It'd be much easier if I bought my one case and just moved on sure, but I like to help others.

When I come to GR next tracker, let's meet up and I'll buy you a beer.

For the record, I'm not even slightly upset. I just think the entire situation is kinda effed upped and odd side refusing to implement limits takes most of the blame. Me personally, I showed up at 2:00 waited in line for 10 minutes, got my 3x 4 packs of hipster, 1x morningwood and 2x joker bottles and went on my merry way (Hazel was even still available but I passed even though I could have used it as trade bait).

I'd wager good money on there being a limit for next year's Hipster release.

I'm sure a lot of people changed their plans. This is worse than muling in my opinion, I mean...what's the point? In fact, although I think there should have been a 2 case limit I don't mind muling if that is how Odd Side set it up, it's kinda like allowing proxies on a Brown Paper Tickets release. Spreading bullshit either on this site or FB is a dick move though.

I didn't read all of the whining but I don't understand? The beer was for sale for nearly 8 hours on the release day, lasting 6-8 times longer than most limited releases in west Michigan. A guy I know strolled in at 1:30pm, waited 10 minutes, and bought a case. If someone wants to buy 27 cases to save his buddies the drive there, how is that any different than if those 27 guys had shown up and made the line any longer in the morning?

If someone didn't get any Hipster Brunch, I'm sure there will be willing participants willing to trade it for the BCBS everyone was chasing around instead of supporting a LOCAL brewery.

The entitlement in the craft beer community is really sad at times, turning adults into spoiled children.

Ever think that those "people" were groups of friends that bought a case or two and were saving the guy with the handcart from making 3-4 trips?

What, so the retailers over there can mark it up to $10/bottle and put single bottle limits on it?

How was Odd Sides supposed to anticipate the huge support they received with this release? Last year there were still cases for sale at the brewery 2-3 weeks after the release. That's too bad that you travel on weekends for work, I watch my kids while my wife works weekends so standing in beer lines isn't always possible for me. That said, I don't blame other people because I can't get my hands on a particular special release. I've never been to a Kuhnhenn or Dark Horse release, but somehow I survive, life goes on. And I don't lose any sleep over it. Its just beer dude, its just beer...

And even if that one guy everyone here is flaming hadn't picked up those 27 cases, somebody else would have by the end of the day on Black Friday. I'll say it one more time so it will hopefully sink in...it is just beer.

Hipster Brunch is delicious this year, btw.

I came up from the Chicago area. Left 6 am local time, arrived 10 am MI time. Waited three hours in line, got my five cases of Hipster (took orders from 10 friends for a little over three cases, have one to trade for Bourbon County and nearly one case left for me to enjoy over the next year) and left immediately because I had to get back home for a BCS buy (store held for me) and a 6pm tasting at the Clybourn brewpub. I'd hoped to have late lunch at Greenbush (ended up at a Wendy's since GB was packed as usual). Lucked out at Barney's in New Buffalo; got 2 BCS reg and a BW.

The release was run about as well as could be expected. I thought when I arrived that I was ~100th in line; turned out to be about 250 (didn't see how deep the wraparound was at first). Felt sick to my stomach when I heard the rumor about the two-case limit and had it "confirmed" by someone on the OS FB page, but figured it was BS when I saw some of the huge orders going out the door. Had good conversations with the couple behind me who came over from Ann Arbor. Tipped the guy who wheeled my cases out a dollar per case and thanked him for the great job they did with both this and the BA MM releases.

Case limits may seem like a good idea, but they're going to make the whole process slower once people bring mules and Odd Side has to process a larger number of smaller transactions. So be careful what you wish for. Despite the long wait, this was so much smoother than releases in more populated areas are. (E.g., a recent release at Penrose in Geneva, IL, at which the owners let everyone know the beer would last into the evening only to sell out in 15 minutes on a Wednesday afternoon and the latest release at 18th Street in which employees wouldn't share the bottle count, tickets came out slowly and half the people who were lined up when the doors opened got shut out on the beer they had come to buy.)

Kind of my point above. Like you, I felt like the release was well run by Odd Sides.

How does this count as a joke? Purposely spreading false information is usually known as lying, isn't it? What's the punchline?

Folks had a guy mule for them in the interest of saving the guy with the handcart from making additional trips should they have gone to the release instead? Seriously? Priceless.

Reading comprehension much? I'll try to make this a little easier for you to understand.
3-4 friends (there together at the release) individually buy a case or two each>fill handcart with 5-6 cases>walk out to car with beer and OSA handcart guy

My point was there were a lot of people that bought a case or two and walked out together with other people that bought a case or two, giving the IMPRESSION to the people that weren't even there (reading about this on the interwebz) that a lot of people were buying 5-6 cases EACH, simply not the case.

    How's that for priceless?

Regarding the BCBS I wasn't willing to buy what was allowed as it would've been taking advantage of said store not realizing what they had (and thus rationing out like many other stores did). In terms of the Odd Side release, my Wife came because she wanted to keep me company. Being that she's not really into craft beer like me, I saw no reason to buy extra allotments of Hazel's Nuts for example. Had somebody asked for a favor I would've been more than happy to help another BA out. I guess at the end of the day if I can help somebody out I will (and don't get upset with somebody else doing the same and not expect anything in return)

Now on a side note, posting limit changes like that is definitely a dick move for sure. personally I would've still driven a few hours for 2 cases, a great tap list (which I didn't get to enjoy), and some great bottle shops (and founders) worth hitting up in Grand Rapids.

Not to defend him but anyone that is even remotely active in that particular beer group on FB should know that he was joking, and numerous subsequent posts indicated he was "trolling" as well. I honestly can't believe this would have deterred anyone standing in line, or on their way there. And the criticism of him doing that is completely contradictory to the people flaming him for buying a large quantity (indicating that they wanted to buy a large quantity). Ironic, actually.

"Not to defend him", then defend him. I know for a fact this affected people. I don't mind the muling at all, that is how Odd Side set it up, posting stupid shit is a dick move! What's the point? To be funny? Set up a group text with your "friends" if you want to troll them.

My bad. I misread your other post. Although in my defense the person you were replying to originally may have been saying people individually were walking out with 6+ cases, not groups of people together. That was my interpretation of his post.

The guy that wasn't there and was whining that he won't get any? Sure, there are people that bought large quantities but they were the exception. Or one guy in the group would say "I'll take all the beer out to the car, will you grab me a pour while I'm gone"?

How so? You walk up to the counter and order however many cases you wanted? Did Odd Side's staff start enforcing the fake limit? Or did people simply not come because TWO CASES wasn't worth the trip based off an internet rumor? Seriously?

Well, someone earlier said it did for someone they know. It also did for someone I know. I was muling a case for him and when he saw the post he left his house and came to Odd Side. I saw him in line and bought his case for him and saved him standing in line for 60-90 minutes but he still left his house for a couple hours because of his post. This must be a friend of yours if you feel the need to defend him?
