I picked up and tried some 2015 Bourbon County Brand Barleywine yesterday. It was very good. I haven't tried many Barleywine styles but I'm going to start looking out for them.

I love this idea. As a huge barley wine head, I am jealous. Try to get a Revolution Straight Jacket!

I'm a big fan of the Sea Smoke! I thought it was silly at first, then I drank it... fantastic.

    Four questions:
    1. Which one for your birthday?
    2. Which one for Christmas Eve?
    3. Which one for Christmas Day?
    4. Which one for New Year's Eve?

Personally, I have Bigfoot and Sucaba in the fridge right now, plus BA Bigfoot, and some mediocre Japanese barleywine. I'm sure there are others. Not a theme right now.

I don't know you at all, but I see your avatar/name on here often enough that it's as if I do. Early birthday to you!

Ha! I thought the same, but then just couldn't resist the allure of the smoke! Nice to hear it'll be worth my while. Thanks.

So @zid , will you be posting one of these every day on this particular thread? I suppose I'll join in when I open mine, if that's the way this goes. Great idea!

Happy 40th!!! Just reminded me I have a 4 pack of DFH Olde School aging in my cellar so I will pull one out as it is one of my favorites.
Won't be easy to find but if you could culminate the month long barleywine fest with a King Henry, i think that would be fitting.

Not sure what part of NY you are from but hopefully it's in or near the city...I had a barleywine aged in rye whiskey barrel aged barleywine from Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe on Thanksgiving that was pretty awesome

JW Lees, particularly the Lagavulin. Thomas Hardy was the best, but no longer produced. I read a while back someone was reviving it with the original recipe. I really hope so. Not nearly enough English barley wines, as I find the American style is over-hopped.

Good to hear. I've had one stashed away for over a year now and I've really been clueless as to how it's going to taste.

Never seen the Old Ruffian in 12 ounce bottles before so I checked the reviews and it seems they started it this year! Man I want to try this but my distributor sucks and I only see the bombers still. DAMN IT!

Look out for Lervig Brewer's Reserve Barrel Aged Barleywine. It is a phenomenal beer.

We didn't get any BCBBW here, but I did find some 2015 Stone Old Guardian on closeout at the grocery store today. That's WBWIWBD for the foreseeable future.

What a great idea. I will also be turning 40 in the upcoming year and now may do something similar..Happy 40th. As for barleywines this next month, the only one I plan on kicking is the Central Waters Y2K.

I'm a fan of the Sebago Single Batch Barleywine. I have the 2013 & 2014 versions, will probably get 2015 for a nice vertical. Also I have several Jack's Abby Bride Makers. While IMO barrel aging does not always work for stouts, man I have yet to find one barley wine where barrel aging does not make a good BW even better...

Edit: oh I noticed you had some "old ales" in there as well. If that is open for discussion, I just picked up a Rising Tide Hesperus ale while in Portland this weekend. Also have a nice vertical going on this as well.

You're missing Firestone Walker Double DBA, my favorite barleywine too bad it's not available anymore.

That Arctic Devil is a killer barleywine and the best of your lot, though the CW is a nice sleeper.

+1 to Mother of All Storms.

Weyerbacher Insanity is a nice toffeebomb of a barleywine if that's what you go for. It turned me onto the style so many years ago!

I second the JW Lees Harvest Ale. I've not had the Lagavulin cask variety though. I've had a 2012 port cask, and a 2011 regular, both fantastic. Some places near me have some bottles dating back to 2008. Great classic English Barleywine.
