Not necessarily, I am acquainted with him and his antics through the FB group.

Regardless, this was one of the better releases I have seen (other than the Founder's KBS release) in the sense that the people that were in line when it opened all got beer, and for quite a few hours after that. Lining up inside a hallway beats standing outside in the cold, as well.

Agree. Although it was not necessarily fast moving, it was still a decent release and everyone who showed got what they came for.

All breweries should do it like Founders does KBS, Brown Paper Tickets, multiple days with defined limit. No standing in line is priceless.

FB guy needs to relax with his trolls though.

Thank you for enlightening us all with your infinite wisdom. Your expert opinion has truly made an impact on me and now I realize curing cancer is indeed more important than craft beer. You picking up my sarcasm, "dude?"

We're right up there with climate change. Really looking forward to the 4Elf release. Most likely a two case limit on BBPt5, so there's no way anyone's leaving with 29 cases (plus BourbRum) unless they can pack 14 1/2 people into the Kia for the ride to and from Marshall.

The concept of beer etiquette is laughable. Etiquette is etiquette. Buying beer that is for sale within the rules set out by the brewery has NOTHING to do with etiquette.
People need to get over this supposed craft beer "community". The only community that exists is between brewers, and people busting their asses working for small brewers, to try and satisfy the tastebuds of the entitled.

By the way, I really hope people popped in at Founders on their trek home and got their fill of CBS.

The 3.5hr drive each way was worth it and would do it again.

Well, except for the guys who had to work or had family commitments and couldn't get there until after 4:00. They assumed they would be fine because Oddside was assuring everyone they had enough to last all day.

They use Eventbrite now - wasn't the "Brown Paper Tickets Year" the year they basically crashed the system?

Thanks for proving my point, "it" obviously is not "just beer" to you.

You're absolutely right, nailed it. Now how about we squash this little internet beef and you ship me some of that Hipster you were able to score.

Brown Paper Tickets must suck, because it was a fail for Abraxas a couple weeks ago. But yet they seem to be able to handle other large events with no problem? Just can't handle the beer crowd I guess.

Regarding Hipster, unless more can be found in a warehouse somewhere I got shut out. Do I care? Ehhh.... I enjoy Hazel's much more than Hipster so that is what I would have went for. And honestly I didn't feel I had a shot at it unless I waited in line all morning. Now I see posts that suggest otherwise. If this meant that much to me I should have ditched family obligations and made the drive. So my choice is my choice. However a small group of us (4 cases, 1 mine) had some held at the brewery in advance. We were told absolutely no problem, they have PLENTY, and will never sell it all. Well our beer was nowhere to be found on Saturday. Likely in the back of a Kia. Whatever....like I said if this was life and death to me I would have been in the line, not enjoying my family. Only disappointment is IMO Oddside doesn't quite seem to have a grasp on the market. But as a business move to get free cross-state/out-of-state distribution via a Kia, I guess it's smart. But damn Oddside, you are a MI only company; at least give the 30 cases to someone driving a MI product!

From what I hear, OSA is a very lean brewery, so I do not think you can get more lean than selling as much of your product in as many large transactions as possible. They have people (mules) paying them to distribute the beer for them, for no charge.

Also, by doing this they have much less transactions which result in less time wasted checking people out and less credit card fees. Another great side effect is the gas savings to customers by not needing 27 people in 27 cars to go get 1 case each.

Rationalizing muling using gas savings? That's a good one. In the mean time, these same people who may have not gone to OSA anyway that day were driving all around town trying to score BCBS.

It is a side effect, as I stated. Don't be so mad about it, they literally had 800+ cases

^This. I find it funny someone can claim that the announcement of a 2 case limit directly affected people. How? Because they wanted MORE than 2 cases? Like the thing people are complaining about in this post? I'm sure that was only for personal consumption...

I am curious where the cutoff is for where it is "right" and "wrong" to pickup beers for "friends". I put it in quotes because we all know anyone you help out in life is really only just using you. For anyone that didn't get some, perhaps you should find some "friends" to pick it up for you. In fact, if you're on the East side of MI and need some help, I implore you to join the FB page and have "Mclovin" help you out.

I find it funny that people can complain that some of the people he grabbed beers for would be trading the beer...so? Do you think every person that bought bottles for only themselves aren't going to trade it? I actually am not a fan of people trading something I pick up for them (if there are limits), and I won't trade something picked-up for me...but that's a personal decision (because if its limited and you wanted me to pick it up for you to trade it, I might as well have traded it). It's better than having 30 more cars on the road, 30 more parking spots being taken up, and 30 more people in line.

To anyone that has not had this beer and would like to try it (who also hasn't gone to the point of bitching and insulting in this thread), send me a PM. I'll hook you up if you'd like.

I can agree though that the trolling is annoying, but IS common in that facebook group (or really, from McLovin in general.)

The two case limit rumor spread through the line like wildfire. Didn't and wouldn't have surprised anyone if it had been true since individuals, not groups, were going out the door with six or seven cases. It only continued after that, so we figured that it was only a rumor. Definitely didn't help anyone following social media, but if you were on your way or already there, then it didn't matter. None of this thread probably means anything to Odd Sides, they pulled in over $100,000 in one day's sales (and no distribution involved). Do you think that has an impact on changing anything for next year? Doubt it. It's only going to be a longer line when they open up on Black Friday in 2016.

I'm surprised nobody has a problem with this. While I blame the brewery for backing out on the promise, they should have never made it in the first place. McLovin was there early, so he definitely didn't take yours. However, to expect a brewery to hold onto a hot release for you is a bit of a high expectation. I have to agree with the "first come, first served" mentality on this. I would have been upset if I was a person turned down for bottles, hung around at the brewery, then saw you walk in 4 hours later and purchase 4 cases I was told were "gone". Also, if they would truly be willing to hold some; wouldn't everyone want to do that? Have a limited release held so that you could shoot around to a bunch of stores snagging BCBS and variants and then go pick up the release people waiting hours for.

This isn't a post against you, I actually like your attitude about it. You were going by what the brewery told you and thought you were good...you didn't expect to need a friend to pick it up or swing by earlier than you did. I just find it strange nobody has an issue with it vs. muling.
