I did see an unopened case of Regal Rye behind the counter and asked if I could buy one of them. I was told no. So my only guess is they are holding onto some things for "preferred" customers or are holding them back to release at a later date (or a later event or something)?

Where at? I was waiting for Oakland's release tonight, but if there's some sitting around, I'll just grab some now.

Wait, so did only the DSM area see other variants besides barleywine? Or did only select accounts in Iowa get more than regular and bw?

See my earlier posts. 7G received the variants...at least 2 bottles of Rare were opened at Bricks Friday night and I know of a couple of bars that got a bottle of Rare. They will be held for those awesome Hy Vee tastings, festivals, and "dinners" where you get charged $30-$40 for entry and are lucky to get a 2 ounce pour.

@hunttj Wilson Ave Hy Vee should still have some.

From all accounts (rumors and rumblings, not beer "accounts") Des Moines distro actually gave out all of their variants to retail. Iowa City I hear only saw regular, though I could be wrong and some places saw BW. Cedar Rapids and Davenport/Bettendorf saw regular and Barleywine as well; although the 2 "big spots" in CR have not released yet, I'm not holding my breath for anything other than regular and BW.

I'll chime in again on this subject and state that the Coffee, Regal, and Rare I'm sure you'll be able to see in the Eastern half if you attend some fun, expensive beer dinner or festival.

I would believe it. I just stopped there at 12:30 over lunch. They were out. Hard to believe they could go through 30 cases on a Monday morning when everywhere else around released it 3 days ago. I am pretty peeved even though I did get a couple bottles Friday night (about 7 pm) from Valley West.

My buddy @JediMatt said he was just there at noon and watched a girl buy 4 cases. They set no limits. $500 aint no thang apparently!?!

I don't have a problem with allowing cases of regular after those in line got what they wanted, which given the Windsor Heights process at 7 AM should have been when the case sales started. The line was cycled through repeatedly with each person picking one bottle at a time and then you went to the cashier when you were decided you were done.
