I truly do not understand waiting in line for beer. I've had several friends of mine try to get me to wait with them for a beer release and have always declined. Time is money, and I'm not going to spend my time waiting in line for a beer that may or may not be marginally better than something I could just waik in a store and buy. I didn't get into beer to start a collection or to "hunt" for walez. I did it because I like to drink good beer and that's the extent of it. Personally, I don't feel bad for anyone who complains about anything after waiting in line FOR BEER!

OP - I hope that you enjoy your beers! Too much hassle and money for me, but don't let anyone on here detract from your enjoyment of the beers you purchased.

Thankfully the bottle shop I went to opened at 9am. And they had an amazing flight going along with the event. Plus they have a N64, so my best friend who I dragged with me had no problem playing GoldenEye 64 until they released the bottles.

That's cool, I guess. That would make it slightly more bearable but still not worth it (to me, at least).

There were a lot bullshit opinions and assumptions posted on this thread, and I'm sorry that anyone had to read it all, but I think this is one very valuable piece of information. Thank you.

    We're used to it.

Some poor prick in the Western PA beer discussion thread said he had just moved here from Chicago and had no idea that you couldn't just walk in to a store and buy BCBS here. We had to be the bearer of bad news to him.

    I'm in Louisville, Ky.

Pretty much every decent liquor store in town got regular BCBS and several had at least a few cases of Coffee and Barleywine. 4-5 places got Rare.

Not every place opened at the same time (some opened at 7:00, some at 8:00, some at 9:00, etc) so I barely waited in any lines and made out with 2 Rare's (for normal retail price, not that ridiculous $170 bullshit), 6 coffees and 10 regulars. No mules, no camping out.....just a few calls placed that week to see who was getting what and when they were opening.

I think some people make it more difficult than it should be.

Ah, the free market system. I love it.

The only thing that "ruins" bourbon county for me is the BAs in georgia (I don't know why, but somehow they are always in georgia...) who say they have BC barleywine gathering dust on the shelves of their local bottle shops months later.

Also in Louisville, had a similar experience, although I did line up at Liquor Barn. My wife was going shopping at 6, so I went and sat for 3 hours, met some cool people, and paid retail for some good beer.

I was at Plainfield Binny's as well. Arrived at 6:40am. Left with 2 BCS, 1 barley and 1 coffee. There were only 3 coffee's left after I got mine. It was my 1st time doing this and will be my last time. I could have just shown up at 10am, not waited in line, and been able to purchase 2 regular. That's my plan next year.

Huh. Didn't know that tidbit. I guess he figured if no one went to the tavern people would have more free time to look at his elephants.

When do we get to change the title of this thread to "Tell us all the details about your Black Friday/BCBS story" because that's really all that's going on now. OP started a thread to discuss his concerns about the day as a whole and half of you have responded with nothing more than "I went to ____ store and got ___ bottles for $___." Great. Good for you. We're all happy for you. Have anything to actually contribute to the conversation? Because none of us are impressed with your cool story, bro. Please go post your story in the "Post a pic of your latest haul" thread and leave us alone.

The releases are getting to be a bit ridiculous. I'm still on the fence about going to Kane's next ANTEAD release because I know it's going to be a shit show. I'll most likely wait til they have it as a sample keg at their brewery to try it out.

A $60 ticket to fobab and you could have enjoyed every single one of them and a whole lot more.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I am sure variations of what I am about to say are abound but.

National distribution ruined Bourbon County. It is still a great beer, anyone who doesn't think so is lying to themselves because they hate InBev. You cannot love barrel aged stouts and not love BC. This year's stout is one of the best out of the bottle in years. Haven't had any variants yet, because I will have to trade for them I'm sure. The fact is that bourbon county is nationally distro'd. Which means they get everywhere, which muddies up the water, which causes people to hoard on for dear life, which creates huge disparities. Wasn't there a shop in NYC guaranteeing a bottle of rare to the first 200(!!!) people? That's fucking insane. You really have to work to get BC variants. Barleywine seemed a little scarce this year even. Some people feel it's worth the effort, others hate the effort it takes to get what you want. What cannot be argued is that a shop in NYC getting 18 cases of Rare due to distribution that didn't exist 5 years ago killed the quaintness of the release

I would imagine that the folks you are referring to are posting their successful experiences to show that this gentleman's experience was anomalous, that any "ruining" of Bourbon Count is subjective, and getting scalped is a completely voluntary experience.

My answer is no, because there are plenty of other beers just as good as (or better than) BCBS that are much easier to get. But the whole mentality that you should have to wait in line to acquire good beer is probably ruining beer in general for some people. Thankfully this mentality isn't as pervasive in some places as it is in others.

The amount of d*** wagging that goes on in these threads is quite nauseating. That's my only beef with the BC release.

Ugh. I can't fly from Oregon to GH everytime Oddside has a good BA release. Why their beer have to modestly priced and of fair to excellent quality?

First of all, I don't think that's true for all of them. Some, perhaps. I think some people just get off by waiving their pricks around to the rest of us.

I really feel like there's a way of going about telling the OP how they feel without humblebragging about how many bottles and variants they scored and for how much and on and on. It's so transparent.
