When I first read your post, I thought you meant Sara was the bartender at Caliente. Didn't realize you meant significant other, so who knows. Maybe there was someone there trying to sell bottles for $20 a pop, as I certainly did not ask or approach a female to purchase the BCBS.

It turns into a killer barleywine. The Citra really shines after a year or so in the cellar.

    The spices fade though.

Grabbed a Higher Math and Fort at GE MD over the weekend, but MDX was out of 12.25.15 when I got there; figure it'll be on draft somewhere before Xmas, no biggie if not.

I had a similar encounter last year for kbs. I asked the girl working there if they got any in, and she said yes, but you need to be on the list to get it. I asked the same question to another guy working there and he said that they don't have a list and the kbs is all gone. Moral of the story: make friends with people who work at MD waterworks because they have all the beer you want to buy at their house

When I asked about some (absent) beers at GE MD South Hills this weekend, noting politely that some other locations seems to get the bulk of the good stuff, I was told "I can get anything he can get." Not sure if this was a sore spot for him, because I didn't specifically mention Shadyside but I just nodded and offered a "cool, thanks." At least the shelves there aren't full of Pumpking.

I asked Shaler GE if they knew if they'd get any BCBS and they acted like I was an idiot for asking.

This seems to be becoming a popular trend. So it does seem that those that work retail in the industry are at least becoming familiar with the names BCBS, KBS, CBS, etc. They may not know exactly what they are but they have heard about these illusive creatures from us enough they at least recognize it. Which leads me to this, if so many retailers now are aware of some of these beers, and are becoming more and more "annoyed" with our constant inquiries about said beers, dont you think that that would cause some of these establishments to try and acquire some of these beers, or at least learn about them. If I owned a store, and people kept asking me for product X and I continually tell them no, Im at least going to find out what it is, and do my best to get it to satisfy my customers. Seems here that people just shrug if off and dont care about their customers. Now GE is a different animal in this scenario, but for all the smaller places around town it would be huge. I would be doing everything in my power to get these beers to grow my customer base, and increase my customer loyalty. Maybe thats not how business owners see it around here.

I think Randy is probably going way above and beyond to get the stuff that he gets. A lot of places probably just aren't willing to put in the required work, or maybe even don't know how to make it happen.

A few might recall a couple years ago when Ho1KB ran a buy-a-GI-draft-get-a-ticket lottery for BCBS. I'm realizing now that it's because they probably had to buy a bunch of other GI stuff to get the BCBS in the first place & were maybe making people defray the cost. Basically "Here's what we had to do to get this for you, now you have to drink it".

A bar in Washington, pa is doing the same thing.

Also check out WF in Wexford. It's like goose island tap takeover. Probably for same reason.

I think what we all need to realize it's that working in the beer department for some people is nothing more than a job and a paycheck. Which is totally fine, but we just need to not come across as condescending beer nerd assholes to cashier jockeys.

Where and when as to the Washington place if you don't mind disclosing?
