I corked it and drank the rest last night.

I don't like the 16.9 in any variant. Expensive! Maine Brewing, Stoneface, and Pliny all would be consumed more by me in Bomber form or even better 4 packs. I have no problem drinking the size, but I would rather more bang for my buck!

Had my first 16.9 BCBS today, sipped on it for 2 hours, was just fine.

And I responded. I did not buy two 4-packs. I bought 2 bottles. And unless I find a variant, I doubt I'll buy much more. This is too big a beer for me to drink often. In fact, I drink one every couple months, so my current stock will carry me for a while. But at essentially $11 a bottle, I buy as I would any bomber. 1 or 2, not 8 or so.

It's metric. Americans can't be expected to comprehend it.
And a half litre is meant to be one beer in one glass for one person. So buck up.

I don't wanna be a bummer and complain about AB-inbev's money push here, but it seems clear to me. $0.50/oz to $0.71/oz is a 40% increase in price. Not stoked about it.

Yeah they are making a lot more money. Like A LOT more money...

like A LOOOOOT more money. A few extra bucks for a bottle turns into lots of goose eggs for them.

40% increase in the price of anything from one year to the next is insane.

I could down 750ml of this no problem, within an hour. Same with sours. Same with IPA's. Pretty much if it tastes good, I will take as much as I can get. I just don't relate to people whose taste buds get tired from big flavor. Wish I did, maybe I would be satisfied sometime.

The bottle size increase is pretty shady, but the new bottle volume is nice and better for bulk aging, in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm reading these posts and am pretty blown away. Why can't someone drink 1.42 beers?

My area saw a much smaller percentage increase, but a increase non the less.

In 2013: $0.42/oz. when buying 48 ounces worth (a full four pack) *$20/four packs. Variants available etc. for a bit more. Higher limits.
In 2014: the price increased to about $0.52/oz. for a full four pack *$25/four packs. Lesser Variants and stricter lower limits

2015 saw $0.59/oz. for a two bottle limit of only regular. $9.99/500 ml bottle

So a 40% increase over two years.

From just two years back to now, I am paying 40% more for 65% less obtainable ounces.

A 20% increase for next year would yield about $11.99 500ml bottles. A jump to $14, where the equivalent is to a $18 22 oz. bomber would only be a 16% increase. They'd be doing us a favor at that point.

Knowing what some of yall had to pay just blows this tiny 20% increase out of the water.

For years I felt this beer was slightly under priced, and maybe that was some larger appeal many had towards it. But now its inching closer to being like all the others.

I liked the 12oz bottles, but these new bottles are just freaking awesome. Also, if you people take any more pictures with the back label facing forward, I will lose my mind.

The thing you have to think about with the new format is that it prices BCBS in line with beers of a similar quality. For a Missouri example, most SP beers are $20-30 for 750mL. That is $0.78-1.18 per ounce. Better yet, Abraxas, which is non BA and a similar style and quality, was $20 per 750. If you want to compare it to BA Abraxas ($30 last year, I'm guessing $35 this year) to BCBCS or Regal, the comparison is still close ($35/25.36=$1.38 BAA and $24/16.9=$1.42 Regal).

Bottom line, we have demonstrated the demand for high quality beer at a premium.

Hey, remember...nobody here drinks to ever get buzzed or drunk! But, yeah..16.9 oz is too much, but virtually every one here can go out and have two 8 oz pours of BCS or 3 five oz tastings and it's not an issue at all.

It seems to me that 12 oz is perfect for a solo drinker but not enough for a share. However a 22 oz is perfect for a share but too much for one person. 16.9 oz is just a weird size for it. It doesn't work in either case.

The size of the bottle (500ml) is a little annoying for me, but not the end of the world. The thing that I am really pissed about is that the shape of the neck of the bottle means you can't re-cap them!!

I often use a home brewer's bottle capper to re-seal bottles I don't want to finish in one sitting and drink the rest the next day - it works brilliantly on everything except the larger necked Belgian bottles (the ones that Bruery uses too ) because they are a larger diameter cap... but I digress.

For those of you unfamiliar with how a bottle capper works, it latches on to the little rim on the neck and pulls down with a tapered cup to seal the bottle:

Works a treat, and this neck design is standard on almost every bottle I have ever seen (corked and caged aside).

Now the new Bourbon County bottle has a unique design that I have never seen before, and the rim is recessed, and much higher up the bottle than any other design:

The result is a standard bottle capper doesn't have a chance of re-sealing the bottle!:angry:

No idea if anyone has any info, but I have to believe this is a deliberate design. Goose Island must have had to have a customized bottling line to fit the new sized bottles, and part of that would have been a different capping machine to accommodate the change. Given that this would have been a PITA for the engineer designing the capper modifications I can't believe that this is accidental...

You might want to prevent people re-filling bottles and selling counterfeit Rare etc... but you could always use a hammer style bottle capper to work around the issue, so this change seems to be purely for cosmetic reasons. Is all this re-engineering and change just so the profile of the bottle neck is clean for the new label? That is the best reason I can come up with, but I am still pissed I can't re-seal a bottle and enjoy the second half later in the week.:slight_frown:
