I suppose it could be an issue, however I would think there is some warning against doing just that. They can track all of the glass orders.

If this beer is delivered like someone said it is (by the SA rep) I would think they are keeping track of bottle numbers and the tags probably cross reference to the bottle number. If that is the case, it wouldn't be hard to track down the retailer that had a particular bottle(code) and check who ordered the glass.

At least in CT it is hand delivered by the sales rep that works for the distributor (not Sam Adams reps themselves). No way theyre going to put this on a regular truck and have one of the delivery drivers smash a $1200 case of beer

I read a lot about the Utopias when they come out, they are tempting, tantalizing, but I did the math and I could get 2 CASES of Hopslam for the same price. Or pay for a week of daycare.

Or multiply it by about 7 or 8, and get a root canal, crown not included.

Just a little info I found on Utopia pricing:
Supplier sells to whole sellers for $624.36 for 6/24 oz bottles ($104.06 per bottle)
Whole seller sells to retailer for $149.00 a bottle.

Can't believe I just bought one of these..
..this shit will last at least 2+ years in my book. Retirement 4 years from now will break open then. Won't ever buy again. Retirement gift for sure.

Popping up in Austin today at several grocery stores. Thought about running over to one, but I'm hoping I'll just be able to try a pour of it someday. My cellar is already too overcrowded to add a $200 beer right now.

Yeah, and you also have to remind yourself sometimes that there are an awful lot of people who earn a lot of money each year and price just isn't really relevant to them. I mean, there are about 3 million households in the US that make $250K+ per year, so there are quite a lot of people that aren't really going to balk at price...

Then you have the beer fanatics, who maybe can't afford it as easily, but will go without a lot of other stuff to have hard to get beers. Just look at BCBS Rare this year - $60 a bottle, and people are going to camp out overnight in front of stores for the chance to buy it...

I felt a momentary pang of guilt for spending that much when I picked up my bottle last week... I checked myself thinking 'this is ridiculous and wasteful' and then bought it anyway :grinning: I know lots of people who drop $200 on tickets to broadway shows and other events that last a few hours - I will get at least that much enjoyment out of this bottle over the next year.

Anyone get their glass yet or at least a shipping notification?

They put a $3 hold on my credit card, which dropped about 5 days later. Anyone know the capacity of the glass? I hope it's big enough where I can pour in about 6 ounces and mix it with diet pepsi and ice.:grimacing:

At that price it would be cheaper to move to Boston and get a job with them!

And then there are the guys like me...Who just happen to have a bottle of Rare (for example) put in their hand and buy it (after swearing not to)- see: impulse buyer haha. I'm very similar to you you, in that if it's what you enjoy, do it. I'd likely do the exact same thing if I ever had a Utopias put in my hand (which is why I've never actually asked to hold the few bottles I've come across the past few years lololol).

Also, FWIW, I don't make 250k a year (nor do I really sacrifice on the other things I'd like to do). I make a very modest living (commercial flooring), but I don't shit off money on silly things. I'm also married without kids (which probably helps).

Again, if I had one of these put into my hands, it'd be done deal lol.

I'm pretty sure all the glasses are on back order. They are working on getting them back in stock.

    Kind of a fail.

I mean, you know how many codes you are issuing and when the bottles go on sale. Its not like they sit around on the shelf very long...

Seems like someone might have screwed up. I'm not upset but I could see someone buying this as a gift and wanting to have the glass ready to go with it come Christmas or for whatever occasion they bought it.

With the $$$ that is spent on Utopias, they should have a stockpile of these ready to be sent out. The fact that it's treated like some "free" gift from a cereal box or something where you have to pay s&h and wait 4-6 weeks is kind of a joke.

My feelings about it exactly. It's not like they don't have the capital to order all those glasses up front (which actually doesn't matter since they are paying for them anyway) and hold them in inventory for a few months.

I received an 'order confirmation' on November 17. Nothing since then.
