DFH Olde School Barleywine...should I crack it?

    I never was one to age beers but I decided last year to tuck away a bottle of DFH Olde School Barleywine after reading the little blurb on the bottle suggesting drinking some now and burying one for a year. Well, it's been sitting for about 13 months and I was thinking of cracking it this Thanksgiving. Any experiences with aged Olde School? Is a year enough or should I let it ride? Cheers!

    Do like I do and horde that kinda thing, busting one out every few months, only to come to the conclusion years later that you should have just enjoyed it right away :wink:

    I kid, I kid, I'm building some verticals and I'm excited to pull out time-capsule flights with a friend.

    When the question is "Should I open..."
    The answer is almost always yes.
    Tonight is Thanksgiving Eve, crack that bad boy open.

    Give it a try. It's a great beer to go with your Thanksgiving turkey. After about 2 years most of the hops fade away... so at 1 year, you should still get some hop while the other flavors start to come through.

    I had Olde School from like 2004 or 2006 last year (on draft though, not bottled), and I thought it was extra delicious. Feel free to age what you have for a long time, but make sure you store it properly

    Last years Olde School are drinking beautifully right now.

    I had some from 2014 last night and it was fantastic. Having said that, this is a beer that will keep changing for years and will hold its quality. So open it if you want a tasty treat or wait for a while to have a tasty treat

    I've had it from 0-3 years, and so far the oldest has been the best. I'll be picking up a bunch more this year and sending some away for a very long time.

    Olde School is one that I would say the older the better. I haven't found the ceiling yet.

    Yeah, it's the one beer -- of all beers -- that I tend to get every year. It's a bummer. Just means you have to keep a couple of whatever you have for the right time.

    Definitely disappointed to hear that. While it's certainly not the same, Burton Baton is delicious fresh and ages quite well too. I'll be getting at least one 4-pack of that as a consolation prize.
