So ive been shopping at a beer store for over 3 years now I drive 25 miles each way 50 miles round trip just to shop there. The manager of the store knows how far I drive and how much im in there. Ive been asking for weeks now about when Bourbon County comes in I asked a total of 4 times over the past 5 weeks. I called today and was told it had come in great news. I drove all the way to the store to have the kid that works the beer department tell me oh ya its in are you on the list ? Wait a second here what list ? He says they started a list a month ago. Ok that's fine but why in the four times I asked not told about this list. I asked the manager about it and he says Im not sure why your upset you should have been on the list. I would have been on the list if I was told the employee who I talked to two times was standing there and I asked him in front of the manager why he didn't tell me and he told me that he doesn't remember talking to me which was a out right lie. So would you guys just suck it up and still shop there or would you just walk away even being that's the only store you can get most of what you need at?

That's a tough one if there selection really is that much better. 50 miles and poor service makes it an easy decision for me, even if it's the best bottle shop you can get to. You went above and beyond to make your intentions known and it was met with disregard.

How about this idea - identify an OK bottle shop that is closer to you. Go in, meet the employees and make requests to them. It could just be the bottle shops closer to you don't have a good handle on what us beer geeks are looking for and someone like yourself could be a real asset to them. I'm pretty sure they would hook you up good next Black Friday. At least you would get better service than what you just received.

Question is, do you have better options? Usually places with 'lists' take care of their regulars first. I'm on a 'list' whenever something special comes out around here because I buy kegs, etc from a local bottle shop. Its kinda automatic

Firstly, I think you were treated poorly by the beer store people (manager and employees).

If you are willing to solely shop elsewhere in the future is entirely your call. What is more important to you:
    • Wide selection of craft beer
    • Being treated properly by beer store personnel
    Cheers!

That's ridiculous. First, you're going to a bottle shop for craft beer, you don't need any of it. But second, that's absolutely insulting and terrible customer service and I would definitely never shop there again. Regardless of whether or not I couldn't even get half of the craft beers I wanted anywhere closer. 100% bullshit.

Besides just shopping there, do you have a relationship with these guys? Meaning do they recognize you are someone who comes in all the time? If so it is fucked up. It end to speak with my money and would stop going there. Do they really have you by the balls selection wise where you can't possibly go anywhere else?
Just to point out, I agree that it was wrong to not tell you about the list on the phone or that there was even a list. But I don't think he should have given you someone else's bottles.

This is my thoughts exactly! I drive a distance for beer but for that kind of service would close that real quick.

@Puigybank66 if you want a bottle of Regular BCBS, hit me up in a BM.

I would be done with that shop, and let the owner know why.
You have to decide how bad you want what they have.

If I had any choice they would not see me again and I would try hard to have any other choice. It would not bother me so much that I was not on the list. What bothers the hell out of me is that they led you to believe it would be available for you and then when you arrived rubbed your nose in it.

I feel like I do every time in in there I talk with them for about ten minutes or longer each time. Everyone in there knows my face and say oh hey what's up man.

I would start looking for a store that is 30 miles away. What's another 10 minutes?

I work at a bottle shop and we go out of our way to cultivate returning customers. They seriously dropped the ball in regards to BCBS and you. Any time someone comes into the store I work at asking about special releases I tell them what our policies are and if it is close to release day, or if we have started a list, I let the customer know what he/she needs to do to guarantee their allotment.

Now I will say this I was also told that even if I was on the list I might not have got any because they got shorted now I would have been fine if that was the case.

I'd be hesitant to believe what they told me at that point.

Screw the bozos. Considering wear and tear on you car runs about $.35 per mile plus the value of an hour of your time you would be better off mail ordering the stuff you can't get. You will probably break even (shipping vs car) and have an extra hour for drinking beer instead of staring out your windshield.

Tricky. If it was me, I'd have a little pow wow with the manager, politely, lay the cards on the table. Try to clean the slate with them and start fresh. That way, you both know what to expect from each other going forward. It sounds like poor communication with the list, to the phone call: "sure, come on in, it's here!", to the employee trying to cover his ass. Be assertive but polite, wipe the slate clean, and go forward. I like the second chance thing.

I don't know man, good bottle shops are hard to find so if you have a good one then maybe give them a pass this time. Lesson learned, ask about lists for limited releases in the future.
