Thoughts on what happend to me today ?

Loyalty's a two-way street so it's disappointing how you were treated. There's a couple of places at which I sometimes shop where I don't trust what they tell me. At my #1 bottle shop, they always put at least one bottle of special releases away for me. It's a matter of character.

 

Yes, the OP was treated poorly and should have been on the list. But....if I've learned anything as I've grown older, it's that too many people who work in any kind of retail business really don't give a shit and are just putting in their time and collecting a paycheck. Looking back, I know I've missed opportunities because I didn't realize that there's nobody going to look out for me better than me. Unfortunately, poor or disinterested service at retail establishments is far too prevalent than it used to be. You cannot presume that the employee, manager or for that matter the owner is going to do the right thing by the customer.

 

Sucks. My name was on 'lists' at lots of places and none of them called, emailed, or anything. I don't want to be annoying and keep asking them, but they proved me right by not letting me know. A few were sold out before I could get there, and a few were not.

 

Ask the manager to read each post in this thread. I wonder if that would give him some perspective on how you were treated.

 

similar situation happened to me with FW XIX..guy i usually go to told me day he was getting it in..even called a week before to see if it was still coming in..he said yeah...went on the day he said it was coming in and douche tells me.."oh came in 5 days ago..sold out"..meanwhile i been going there for yrs...won't be going back.

 

Id ask right now to be put on every list for the next 3 years...then you don't have to worry about it, you will be on the list every time.

 

Gotta go the clean slate / air it out route here. Besides the manager may want to make it up to you somehow. I'm sure you will get your BCBS someday anyhow, so this is just a speedbump.

 

Where in PA do you live?

 

Tell them you started a BA thread about them. Give them the name of this thread. Tell them you expect better service and that THIS TIME you didn't mention the name of their store.

 

4 words: the beer store southampton

if you are anywhere in the eastern half of PA make the trip and stock up. they have everything you can get in this state, and the people who work there will go out of their way to talk about and recommend good beer. it's not cheap but the prices are fine compared to philly(where maybe they have beer you can't get anywhere in the state but when it's sitting next to a 20 dollar unibroue 4pack you can guess how that goes)

 

man that's not good, 50 miles? really? well i don't know, if that was the only place i could score most of the beer i look for then i would say keep going until you find a something better. The problem is that sometimes we expect that people who work at these stores to care for beer as much as we do but that is usually not the case except sometimes for one or two people there but for the most part especially in bigger stores no one really cares if you get the beer you want you are just another thirsty guy. My advice would be find a smaller place maybe where the owner is the one behind the counter selling it to you but then again you where looking for a beer that most are after so I understand that they might have sold out before you got there and was probably not list to begin with.

 

I honestly do not think people realize what they have said until after they say it. I have had people say things to me in the interests of customer service that I found unrealistic and when confronted with it what made me angry is that I felt I had no other choice. As far as a consumer product goes you will always have another choice. Rare or hyped beer is not the holy grail and how you were treated can show you that. Go and buy Uintas Cockeyed Cooper and realize that one beer that you get once a year is a drop in the bucket compared to all the pilsner you will drink. =)

 

Your call, I have a couple of places I buy where I buy frequently, and let them know what I am looking for. If I go in to see what is new, I will usually pick something up, even if it means dealing with the wraith that my wife will give me (but she doesn't hold beer for me so...). If either of these places would have jerked me around I would be done with them. That said, I wouldn't have to drive far to find another store. So this is truly your call and what you can stand. If you decide to continue to shop there, I would highly recommend you go in one day and speak to the manager calmly and inform him how upset you are and see what his reaction is, based on how he deals with it take it from there. Seriously that is an hour without drinking on your free time, so to increase that to 2 hours. Hmmmm

I would drive the extra miles, I have 2 good shops where I live and I go to the one with less selection because they always try to get me what I want and they are great people who love beer. The other place has a little more not much more but they act like they don't care if you buy anything or not.
