Brother Rebus is a good guy. Very nice gesture on his part to spread the wealth so at least one more person could enjoy some BCBS.

If I was coming from the South Hills, I would probably not take Bigelow. I would go down Smallman, cut up the 28th street bridge, drive through Polish Hill, take Baum up to Negley and you're there. A little more maneuvering, but way less traffic and street lights.

It covers up the bad parts & leaves the good parts.

Would depend on the day/time of day, but I'm south enough that I would probably take 88, Becks Run, Beacon and Shady Ave.

I make the South Hills to Shadyside trek almost weekly. I do 51, Beck's Run, Carson Street, cross the Hot Metal Bridge, then go up through Oakland and take 5th Avenue all the way down.

Yeah, 19 from too far out is murderous. For BG or Voodoo, I'm nearly better off hopping on 79 (near Gillece) to 376; my backup route is through Baldwin and Streets Run.

Doesn't that take you past where you need to go? Can we make an algorithm that takes into consideration MPG, distance, and time?

Though I guess it depends which part of the south hills you are coming from. I'm used to coming down from Peters to the city and that's the route I would take.

Note to mods - This is all in an effort to get beer the quickest and most efficiently

Baldwin and Streets Run are my stomping grounds. I take the Liberty Tunnels when I go to Bloomfield / Lawrenceville but do the Oakland route when I hit up Shadyside.

I'm about 2 minutes away from the hellhole known as the 88 / 51 intersection. Probably a longer route time wise going through Oakland, as getting from the Hot Metal Bridge to the Carnegie Library can take 15 minutes sometimes, but I always choose this path when I'm going to Shadyside for some reason.

I always end up going to Shadyside after work, which is from where I park on the north shore. I go whichever way the GPS tells me to go and it always feels like it takes ages to get there.

Agree that a lot depends on starting point--no doubt there are several invisible watershed boundaries where alternate routes make more sense. And I'm all for algorithms, but only time matters.

You're taking Maytide to Becks Run, no?

Edit: Used to take this way to work, but with the construction, I do Baptist and Horning now.

Maybe you guys should all just move to a more centralized location. I'm in Lawrenceville and I'm generally no more than 20 minutes from anywhere worthwhile.

For BG/Voodoo - I take 88 (now that it's reopened), Maytide, Biscayne, Becks Run. We used to go through West Mifflin until I got super lost and now my wife won't let me go that way.

Hard to find a suitable mansion in Lawrenceville.

I would say a time v. frustration algorithm is also applicable

    Yep.

It's pretty crazy too how quickly I can get to places in Pittsburgh. Braddock, Homestead, Robinson, Shadyside, Oakland, Squirrel Hill, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, Monroeville, I can get to any of these places in 20 minutes or less.

I go through Brentwood and North Baldwin and take Streets Run Road. Slight altercation, but then again I'm familiar with the area. If your wife ever lets you live on the wild side and lets you trek through West Mifflin again, stop at Century III Mall. With the state that place is in right now, I swear it feels like something out of Dawn of the Dead.

Wasting time and frustration are directly proportional for me.
