That sucks man. I would talk to the manager about what happened and why. Sometimes people just mess up, it is as simple as that. A store that values your business will attempt to make amends and reestablish trust. If they seem indifferent to assisting you here, then I would find a new store. Consumers can be entitled and picky, but stores also have to realize that they are not entitled to your money and business. I would be very clear about that as i departed, and make clear the reason I will not be patronizing them anymore. Nothing worth getting angry over, but certainly worth adjusting where your dollars are going.

If you were a valued customer (based on how far you drive and how frequently you visit - I would consider you one), the manager should have set something aside for you or pulled from "the stash" (my experience has been that most stores that cater to craft beer enthusiasts have some hold backs). It really comes down to if you are comfortable walking away from the place. I would speak with the manager, let him know that you feel like you were treated poorly and why - be constructive; it might help them better organize things in the future. If he offers a mea culpa, no harm no foul. All it would take for me is an I'm sorry this happened, we'll try to make sure it doesn't in the future - no excuses, no back-pedalling. If he can't at least do that, I would personally take my business elsewhere, even if they have the best selection around.

Maybe they realized you're Dodger's fan and didn't want to give you the BCBS :stuck_out_tongue:

    This.

So often on threads someone says they're never going back to a bottle shop, brewery, beer bar, restaurant, etc but rarely is the establishment told it's because of poor service. If they aren't told, they won't know why they lost the business, and may not even notice. For all they know, the customer moved away, died, changed their habits, yadayada.

At the very least, it would give the disgruntled customer some satisfaction, and it just may have an effect on the business' customer service.

What the OP didn't mention until a later post is that his other viable alternative source is 50 miles away from where he lives rather than 25 miles. Which would definitely have an effect on his costs in time and money per trip. Which is at least one reason why some of us have suggested a private chat with the manager to share his frustrations with the way he thinks he was treated.

(Also, in PA, mail order is not a legal option.)

There should be an entire "Pragmatism" sub-forum on this site.

I had something happen eerily similar to this! Even down to the distance traveled each way. I was fiercely loyal to a place and felt my loyalty was disrespected. I have not shopped there since. Since then, I have found an even better shop about a quarter of the distance away from me and I couldn't be happier. For me, the bottle I was searching for was "Given to someone else because 'They spend a lot of money here'..." I was blown away and it just showed me that all that maters is the $. Kinda glad it happened as now I save a ton of gas as well as time!

If you are stuck with having to shop there for some specific beer, then do so. But only buy what you can't get somewhere else. In the end, it's a financial transaction - just treat it as such.

It has been mentioned previously but let me state it as well: homebrewing.

In this instance homebrewing is the best revenge!!

    Cheers!

P.S. While PA restricts the mail-order of beer there are no restrictions on mail-ordering homebrewing supplies.

OP, did you ask about BCBS in-store or over the phone those numerous times? I originally thought you did so over the phone, but rereading your first post, it would appear you did so in person. If you were in the store asking them each time you were there, I agree that you got shafted. In that case, I would reevaluate the type of business you want to give them going forward. If you were calling in to ask (other than the day it arrived), I can see how the store wouldn't know that it was a regular calling. Thus, they may not want to offer a list up to irregular customers.

Yeah well I was on "the list" at my local store. They said they would hold the beer for me up to a week as I was out of town. I go in yesterday to pick the beer up and they said they sold it to someone else. I walked out and wont be shopping their again. Fortunately for me there are other great stores around that get just as good of beer I only shopped their out of convenience.

Well they've obviously decided to change their relationship with you, so I suggest you do the same. I am curious though, how much do you spend there on a regular bases @Puigybank66 ?

I was in there at least once a week never spent less then $40-$50 each time. That's just beer I buy from there I'm also a big bourbon guy and buy bottles from there that can be over $100 at a time.

Always in store face to face and asked employees and the manager. The only time I called was yesterday to see if it came in like they told me to.

I see, I'd do a test drive to the place further out and see if you like it better or get better service.

MMMM bourbon, have you had the Woodford's Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir Finish?

I assume you go to the big city every once in a while. Stock up then. Beer is not that perishable. You may need an IPA now and then locally, but you could certainly cut down most of your buys at this store.

First you're pissed off and I agree with you but negativity breeds negativity and it is just beer so let it go. Talking to the Manager as stated above would help.
Second, ask him how did you get on the list? Obviously your're a good enough customer to placed on a list you didn't know about so burning that bridge just keeps you driving farther and farther.
Third and most important, start home-brewing now, with a little effort you can make just about any brew out there and with some patience, practice and time you can make any beer you want when you want. How do you think all these beers we're all typing about here started?
You may want to think about moving too.

The lists I am on are automatic. I get a text that "x" is in if I want it. I have never been asked about the list.

    I would shop somewhere else.
