I paid between $8.50 and $10.99 for 2015 Reg BCBS. The $8.50 comes out to ~$.50/oz so not too shabby :-)

Totally this. I saw Regal for $60, Prop for $90, and Rare for $200 at a store yesterday, and the owner pulled the whole 'this is what we get charged' song and dance. It is rubbish, he is a gouger and has pulled out all the stops on BCBS this year, so using his retail prices and markups to complain that it is GI's fault is illogical.

Not too much at all, and I'm digging the new bottle.

I don't understand those who think it's too much. A pint of beer is the perfect amount. If it's a low abv beer a few pints is enjoyable, for this beer 1 pint will do. Well done GI.

I've noticed a few opinions similar to yours. Although not universal, prevailing opinions have been in favor of 4 packs and 6 packs vs large formats. This has been due to value and being able to drink smaller amounts at a time.

This is evident by so many beers going from large formats to 4 and 6 packs...Victory at Sea, Enjoy By, Pure Hoppiness, Palate Wrecker and the list goes on. You're argument that GI could have just upped their 4 packs or started selling 12oz formats solo and upping the price does not jibe with the craft beer scene as whole...larger formats have a higher price per ounce.

BCBS now has a large format, and has a higher price per ounce. I think it's kinda lame.

When u find it on tap they don't pour 16.9 oz. They pour about half that into a snifter.

This is a great point. And assuming you sold the 2015 case at ~$130, you made $44 (or 33.8% profit). Now assuming you sold the 2014 case at ~$5-7 per bottle, you made $10-58 (or 8.3-34.5% profit). Seeing as (most) store sold 2014 at $6-7 per bottle, all things were about even this year, even more so adjusting for inflation.

(please check my math, I think I got it all right)

I think the 12 oz format was perfect!!! But I don't get people who think 16.9 oz is too much for a solo drink.

They had it perfect with the 12 oz 4-pack and bomber variants. I hope they switch back next year.

Dogfish isn't have an issue with 120 minutes or World Wide Stout selling at 9.99+ for a 12 oz bottle. I know a few breweries have used the 12.6 format bottle just to look "fancy" and have charged nearly 1.00 per oz. This is a beer that sells out the day it is released outside of a few markets where it seems goose island is incorrectly over allocating bottles (or they are trying to get market exposure there?).

Most beers can't charge premiums such as I'm mentioning. Bourbon County Stout is NOT a normal beer.

Tell your doctor you drink 4-5 beers in all sittings and see what he says that'll do to your health. If memory services in the past people have said bourbon county is about 400 calories a bottle. So this new format is 563 calories. See if that's a good allocation to beer for your diet with the doctor.

And again I'm no health nut. I drink too much and eat a lot of crap I shouldn't. But I at least understand that what I'm doing is stupid.

The Distributor IMO is where all evel in the beer world starts. From there you can add greedy retailers and bar owners, but the distributor is the real winner. Or loser.

I'm fairly ambivalent about 12oz vs. 16.9oz bottles. I would just rather see a bottle limit of one 4-pack instead of a limit of one bottle.
