Hate how these threads always devolve into petty arguments and disagreements! It's one thing to not agree with someone, but there's no reason to be fighting and taking shots at people you don't personally know over beer. On the internets. Me, I will be buying a bomber each of Stone Unfiltered EB and also Stone EB Black IPA, but I know some people won't be because they don't like Stone for whatever reasons. That's cool, everyone should do as they want, that's what we love about our country right? Let's all just chill the fuck out and drink good beer, life is too short for all this petty BS. And that's all I have to say, peace!

Really? I mean seriously? Saying 'I'm not trying to be a troll here, but...' before the rest of your statement, always leads into a troll statement.

I think we need to all stop being so thinned skinned around here. Moral of the situation is, don't be a dick, and no one will call you out on your shit. If you are a dick, you deserve it right back. You don't get the right to make a snide remark and then bitch, moan, and cry when someone throws it back at you. An open forum goes both ways, not just one.

Not at all. I was just looking for an answer to my query with no intent to "troll".

    Cheers!

I have found the latest batches of Enjoy By a bit less dank and fragrant overall, for whatever reason. It could be my palate changed, but I don't know. Go To (my favorite Stone beer these days) tastes the same to be, meaning great. I will definitely try this though!

    @JackHorzempa @bulletrain76 @marquis

@marquis and @JackHorzempa you both mentioned unfiltered beers in your experience being hazy, but not completely turbid as is the case with beers from Trillium, Treehouse...etc. And @bulletrain76, you've commented on how this is simply lazy brewing, and in Heady Topper's case, more marketing than anything else.

Without having had it/seen it yet obviously, and solely based on the description, do you think this new beer from Stone will be hazy, or turbid? If the latter, what are you thoughts?

@StoneGreg, would you be willing to be elaborate your reasoning for making this addtional "Enjoy By", and how, I assume at least, it's flavor profile differs from the original "Enjoy By"?

There are so many variables in brewing both from an ingredient (e.g., hops varieties, yeast stain, grain bill, etc,) and brewng process (specific hopping schedule, fermentation temperature, yeast pitch rate, etc.) that there is not way I could reasonably comment here.

Hopefully Greg Koch will respond to your query since he has inside knowledge here.

    Cheers!

FWIW, I have found significant variability in the flavor profiles of Enjoy By from batch to batch.
That is a good indication that it is not your palate that is varying. If you had a varying palate then the Go To beers would vary from batch to batch.

    Cheers!

Everyone seems a bit touchy in this thread; I certainly read Greg's remarks as equal parts annoyed (rightly so, I'd say) and tongue-in-cheek. Pretty sure his point is that once you factor in the time it takes to make that 5gal batch, the price difference with an equivalent volume of Stone beer is probably cut drastically. I've read plenty of dickish comments by people affiliated with breweries that have rubbed me the wrong way, many to the point that I've stopped supporting those companies, but Greg's post just made me laugh.

So, can we please get back on topic, which I believe was bashing/hyping a beer that doesn't even exist yet?

I certainly concur with that statement as I speculated in my post: All that I can guess is that Greg Koch was having an unpleasant time while waiting in the airport and decided to vent?

    Cheers!

P.S. Please feel free to bash/hype a beer that doesn't exist since I am guessing that is what you would prefer to discuss.

I don't know if there's been any research into the matter with regard to beer, but I suspect there's a genetic component involved. Studies have proven that a small percentage of the population perceives the flavor of cilantro to be "soapy" or "reminiscent of body odor" due to olfactory receptor genetics, specifically a sensitivity to chemicals in the aldehyde group.

Since small amounts of acetaldehyde are present in most beers as a byproduct of fermentation it's not outside the realm of possibility to think that the compound could cross react with compounds in certain hop varieties to produce an "onion-y or garlic-y" flavor that only certain people pick up.

Look at the big brain on Brad

This would make sense, and it sounds similar in principle to the genetic difference in about 25% of the population that causes them to experience hop bitterness much more intensely than others, often leading them to not enjoy hoppy beers. Same beer, completely different perceived experience drinking it.

Now days I get paid to sit behind a desk and buy lots of beer with someone else's money, but underneath it all I'm still a geeky kid who was in the Young Astronauts club in elementary school, made compounds of questionable legality after reading the Anarchists Cookbook while in middle school, and takes a very scientific approach to my rare home brewing endeavors.

Now that you've dredged up those memories, I realize I'm still bummed that my family couldn't afford to send me to Space Camp as a kid. :slight_frown:

Stop guessing. I'm here. You don't have to talk about me in front of me. You can talk TO me! I'm always happy to have a reasonable conversation. Challenge is, that from time to time, I give just a little guff back. It's usually quite mild, and with a good bit of tongue in cheek. Anyone that's been paying attention for the 15 YEARS I've been a posting member on BA knows this. You know this. I'm a happy guy. I'm having a great time. I was enjoying a tasty beer last night on a layover and had a bit too much time on my hands for a half hour. Happens to the best of us. All that, and I don't suffer fools gently all the time. Most of the time, yes. All of the time, no. If someone's gonna get themselves in a bundle over that, so be it. I don't come here for 'customer service,' I come here for real conversation where I talk plain-talk rather than kiss-ass. You want the latter, you're outta luck. I'm gonna talk like a real person, 'cause I am one. I was a beer geek before most of you guys, but not all. I give respect to nearly all...whether they came before or after me. Of course, this isn't aimed at you, or any one person, you just poked a formal statement outta me. ;-]-= I'm in Richmond, I was just out for a great eve with our team here, then went out with my wonderful woman for a little quiet dinner in an awesome little Asian-inspired place with great beers, enjoyed that, and now back at our cool little airbnb flat kickin' it on the couch with some Gingerbread Imperial Stout from Hardywood that our hosts left for us (once they figured out who I was) which was super kind and awesome. If anyone finds my comments unpleasant, that is because they're trying to. I'm a pretty fun loving dude who doesn't mind giving a little shit back from time to time. If you guys were in the room drinkin' with me, and tried to get all serious on this stuff, I'd give you a look like "you're taking yourself, or me, WAY too serious dude" and then I'd offer to grab you another beer from the fridge 'cause someone's getting uptight. Want to promise not to buy my beer as a result. Um, OK. More power to you darlin'! (As I think they say here in the south. LOL.)

Greg, please be rest assured that I will continue to buy Stone beer since I am a fan of the beer you and your team brew.

And best of luck with Stone - Berlin. I hope the folks in Europe enjoy your beers as much as I do.

    Cheers!

Hey, Greg. I like your beers. Just...though I'd mention that. I drank the Sorry Not Sorry IPA tonight, in fact. And Thunderstruck is the best beer Stone has ever brewed imho. I hope I see that one again.

Greg is there any possibility at remixing the Thunderstruck and making it a lower ABV? Think the flavors those hops produce would make it pop a lot more at say 6-7%.

Also why not, make it unfiltered too. I heard that's what all the cool kids are doing these days. No internet drama at all surrounding those.....
