I'll be visiting Portland (from LA) from 9/14-9/17 with the wife for my 30th birthday (3 days of strictly visiting breweries, tasting rooms, gastropubs, bars, bottle shops etc) and had a couple questions. Already got plenty of ideas on WHERE to visit from all the other great threads on this topic but I still have a couple questions: 1. Anyone recommend a good, centrally located decent-to-nice hotel? Preferably one in walking distance of at least a couple good places. 2. Anyone used http://portlandcraftbeerexcursions.com/ to get around? Found them thru a friend on facebook, seems like a pretty nice deal - especially since we weren't planning to rent a car - other advice for best way to get around is appreciated as well. 3. Anyone know of any special events/releases going on that weekend that'd be worth checking out? Thanks for the help! I can't wait for this trip.
I love staying at the Modera when I'm in Portland. It's a decent walk to a number of downtown places and very close to one of my favorite Portland restaurants --- Higgins Restaurant.
I've recommended Hotel Fifty in downtown to several people in the past; it's right on the MAX line and is a very easy walk (via Morrison Bridge) to places like Hair of the Dog, Cascade Barrel House and Green Dragon Don't know of any special events (yet) in Portland, but the Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel (<30 min south of Portland) is happening that weekend and it's a lot of fun... Sorry, no experience with craftbeerexcursions, but if you're seeking a tour, both Brewvana and Pubs of Portland are terrific... Brian
