LIF: Seek-a-Brew, I See You

    To those of us active in the trading community, www.seekabrew.com can be a valuable tool. However, the site is run by only one man (BA superstar FalconA) and as such, updating this great site can lag behind distribution developments. This three part LIF aims to help the community, as well as spread a little beer related joy.

    A mystery box consisting of at least one bottle of Hill Farmstead, and smattering of other interesting things are on offer. I will attempt to hit wants were applicable.



    Open to the Contiguous 48 states only, sorry Hawaii and Alaska.
    I'd prefer participants that have recent trading history, but I will not exclude newer BAs.

    Qualifying Round ( 8/17/12 12pm EST - 8/21/12 12pm EST)
    To Qualify you must post a meaningful update to the distribution list of your home state. This may be either an addition or subtraction of a brewery that has changed distro status in your state. Also accepted are new breweries that are not currently listed on seekabrew.

    If I receive updates to all 48 states before the deadline on 8/21, the qualifying round will close. However, I will also accept multiple entries from the same state as long as the update is materially different. In the event of a "tie" posting the BAs in question will fight to the death for the open slot.

    1st Round (8/22/12 12pm EST)
    After the participants have been determined, I will post a question with a certain range. The 10 closest guesses get into the finals. (If there are less than 10 from the qualifying round I will update accordingly).

    Final Round (8/24/12 12pm EST)
    Friday at High Noon I will post a question for the 10 finalists. At this juncture we will have a winner, or I will post a hint at 12pm everyday until such time as a winner is determined.

    Pipeworks distributes to IL as a new brewery but their name should be bolded or italicized due to them only distributing to Chicagoland

    Edit: it's 11am on my watch here in Chicago...

    Not sure this is substantial enough: For NY State the following breweries do not have Western NY distribution (only downstate) and should probably be in italics: Hair of the Dog, Captain Lawrence, River Horse, .

    Flying Fish does not distribute to NY at all (per their website)

    There are a bunch of others that I have never seen in Western, NY, but I haven't been able to confirm that there aren't distribution contracts for the area.

    New Belgium is new to Michigan (starting end of August)

    Arbor Brewing and Wolverine Brewing are local breweries that distribute in the Ann Arbor/SE Michigan area.

    Wolverine State Brewing is a new brewery that distributes in MI (my new state!) and should be listed in Italics because it's limited distro to Ann Arbor area.


    Edit: beat to the punch by another BA from Ann Arbor. Cheers!

    I sent an email to [email protected] to have them update the site for Maryland. Union Brewing in Baltimore, MD opened recently and has limited distribution in terms of kegs. Canning is expected to begin soon and that will likely be limited distribution as well.

    Thirsty Dog distributes to MA.

    I don't think Backlash is just draft only (unless that recently became the case) in MA.

    Night Shift is a new brewery not listed in MA.

    Sprecher is also ddistributed in Texas now.
    Ranger Creek is a Texas only brewery(bottles and draft)
    Adelberts is a Texas only brewery(bottles and draft)

    Sixpoint now distributes to Texas
    Karbach is Texas only, afaik. Cans at this point, starting bottling this fall (as of last time I asked).
    Schmaltz Brewing Company now distributes to Texas
    Buffalo Bayou Brewing is a relatively young brewery in Houston, may be draft only at this point, not sure.
    rogness brewing - bottling now i think, texas only distro
    no label brewing in Katy - bottling now, texas only
