Could you maybe give a few specific beers and not just list other highly hyped breweries from the top 250? Serious question...like for instance--give me a survivor Funkwerks beer you prefer to a strain pour BLC, a few specific comments/reasons?

Just trying to decide if it's a conversation worth having or if the others are right and I'm feeding the trolls. Cheers!

Thanks for stopping by and offering more than platitudes, self congratulations, and insults. This is what BA is all about. Useful addition to the thread. Cheers.

Can someone who's wife let them make the drive up help a bother out with some specific thoughts on the beers being released?

You were asked, "can you point me to some examples of first rate saisons/sours/fruited in yours and your friends minds?" Then list Hill Farmstead. Why is HF in your list if this was your comment on them yesterday?

" I've peed my pants from excessive Abner / Ephraim / etc consumption and think the same thing about them as I do Casey."

And you're saying you aren't into hyped breweries?

:astonished:. This emoticon exactly shows my exact emotions perfectly.

Solved by bringing the wife and kids with me to take in the waters for the weekend. Much cheaper in December.

    First impressions:

Apricot Cut: Ton of Apricot, but VERY sour. Decent carb. Cuts always turn out WAY more sour than CFP, with the exception of....

Peach Cut: Best Peach beer Troy has made. Least sour Cut I have tried. Can really taste the base Oak Theory. Loads of Peach juice. MOAR.

Bing Cut: Sleeper series. Framboos flat. The nose was underwhelming. Sour but not off the charts. The Cherry CFP's are just better than the Cut counterparts.

Low End Wet Hop: Had 4 Cuts prior to this, so my palate was shot. My wife only drinks IPA and drank 4 of these, so there you go. Hops. Easy drinking.

Plum FS: Crooked Stave acidic. I liked it but Plum CFP kills it.

Bottom line, Peach Cut was the highlight of this release, hands down. Not sure I want to cellar any. So good now.

Count me in for this blind taste test. We can cast a vote and the person who loses has to instant hari kari

On a more pleasant note, the apricot cut today was out of this world. Glad I got to meet some of you guys.

Now back to my Xocoveza

I would love to be part of a blind tasting. I think I qualify for both the newbie group and the 500 club. Only problem is I am in Colorado Springs.

Some thoughts on the Cut: Apricot that I tried yesterday at the release:

It was really good; slightly under-carbonated (as Troy acknowledged) with nice fruit and more sour power than Casey's other beers. I would compare it with Cascade's Apricot, but it is not on the level of Fou Foune or Aurelian Lure, and I like some of Casey's other offerings better, e.g., East Bank, Brett Loves, and CFP Plum. YMMV.

Also, ski season traffic has officially started...I wonder if the Casey hype train has an express route from Denver to Glenwood so I can avoid dealing with I-70?

Hype-drama aside, I really enjoyed the release yesterday. It was gorgeous in Glenwood, the sun was out, and it was perfect winter drinking weather. Went for a hike with my wife in the morning, which really builds the appetite for beer. Also met resident fruit connoisseur pmoney, who really knows his stone fruit.

I enjoyed both Cuts, particularly because of the strong differences between them.

I preferred Apricot to Peach. As with the Fruit Stand, the nose was impeccable. I don't think any of the other apricot sours I have had can match the apricot smell from these two beers. It was definitely undercarbed, but the base was crisp and I thought it paired well with the fruit. All in all I found it well balanced and enjoyable. I'm not gonna proclaim it as better than Fou' or Map of the Sun (my two favorite apricot sours) just yet, but I really look forward to drinking it again in the next few months.

The Peach Cut was a bit divisive for me. On one hand, I absolutely loved the oak flavors from the base. On the other, I think it kind of dominated the peach flavor. In particular, as it warmed it gained a notable butteryness akin to a Chardonnay. I'm really curious to see how this beer develops, so I will aim to cellar one for at least a few years.

Plum FS was super acidic and drinkable. I wish it was more than 1pp. I downed my glass a bit too quickly to be thoughtful...

Wet hopped low end was crisp and drinkable - easily the most carbonated beer amidst throngs of sleepers, which made for a nice change of pace. The lemon flavors from the cascade hops remain a bit sharp for my tastes, but it improved quite a lot from its pine-sol state during the November sneak peek.

At $6 per pour, the sleeper series remains a steal. I'm a big fan of the Bing cherry series, and I would drink undercarbed Bing cuts all day.

This feels like it could have been a Crooked Stave thread from three years ago.

The Bing cut and wet hopped low end were my two favorites from yesterday. Close third was the peach cut.

Zero ski traffic for me, Peach Cut and Wet Hopped Low End in the fridge for the Broncos game! Cheers!

I feel like I am in the minority here, but Apricot Cut and Laredo Plum CFP were my absolute favorites from yesterday. The sweetness in Apricot Cut has died down since I tried it in August, but it was also completely still then and has come up considerably in carbonation. Laredo Plum CFP was just magical...

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy some of our beers. I would like to clarify that none of the rest of this statement, other than your dislike, is actually true.

Is De Garde in Denver? I know Destihl has some canned quick sours floating around town and I always have to remind myself that De Garde =/= Destihl (or De Steeg).
