I don't have 2700 beer reviews and have less than 500 karma points so take this with an appropriately sized grain of salt: I think Casey is the shit. I live in Connecticut so my "local" saisons are OEC and Hill Farmstead and I'll take Casey over them all day every day. Thankfully I have a killer trade partner with a shiny new Casey membership...

Only Berliners I'll drink. Only ones worth a damn.

So...you don't consider Berliner and Gose quick sours?

Just listen to the last two Sour Hour episodes if you want more info on their processes and ingredients.

He's saying they don't kettle sour those beers, I think and that they use real fruit.

Plum was my fave. Apricot is nice, although more tart than I was expecting.

As far as De Garde is concerned, I've had bad luck. Just when I have something good from them it tends to be followed by a sulphur bomb. The goods are really good and the bads are really bad.

Fruit Stand or the Family Preserves?

Fruit Stand. My wife and I had both Cuts and the Plum FS at the same time and the Plum was the winner. All 3 were great (and worthy of the trip), but the Plum FS is in my Casey top 5 now.

For my first trip up I was impressed with all the offering but I think the Peach Cut was the best of the bunch, was blown away at the flavors that came out of that one. The fiancee loved the Bing Cherry.

I'm kind of glad someone came in here to offer a contrasting opinion. It certainly livened up the thread a little bit.

When you sent this, I remember thinking, "Hmm...Wonder is he talking about?" Now, I think I know what you were talking about. And I'm downright giddy. If there is ANOTHER high-quality plum sour coming, I don't know if I could handle it.

We will be hosting our locals release of our collaboration with Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project Batonnage aged on locally grown Japanese blood plums. Stay tuned.

Well, Paradox is releasing a sour beer aged on salted plums in the next month or so. While some of their beers have been polarizing, the fruit beers all seem to do well.

Sounds like I'm going to be near Glenwood Springs on New Years weekend, so I'm thinking about checking out the release. Can someone provide me a quick breakdown/synopsis of how these things work, what goes on, what to expect, etc.?

On the FB event page it looks like he is releasing Saison, Low End and some grape variants. I'm not that bothered about what is available if it's a good experience overall.

    Thanks!

You'll need to get a ticket to be able to buy bottles. If you don't care about the bottles you can go drink at the tasting room without buying a ticket

    Interesting - I didn't realize that.

What is typically available at the tasting room? Just pours of what was available for sale?

Expect it to be cold and probably snowy, but absolutely beautiful in Glenwood Springs and especially at Casey right on the river. As for how it works, BPT for the ability to purchase bottles to-go, otherwise hang out and enjoy the crowd and atmosphere with some on-site pours. I would suggest reading through this thread to learn absolutely everything you could need/want to know.

That plus cellar items, sometimes previous release bottles, and the Sleeper Series.

Usually what's for sale and then a couple others. It will be posted in the event a little closer.
