And CT will probably get screwed out of getting any of this ....

    I love speculation threads!

I've heard from several nefarious sources that they are aging all of the process loss off the bottling line from 2015 Barelywine in the Rare barrels and calling it Henry the Jester.

Ah yes I forgot about that...today though, would the original King Henry simply be bourbon county barleywine? Was the bourbon county aged in barrels longer or anything for the first version? I am really curious now because if I remember correctly, regular bourbon county had an age statement of aged for 100 days in bourbon barrels

That makes sense. Bourbon doesn't really age well over really long periods like that like Scotch does. You'd be hard pressed to find a good bourbon older than 20 years.

THe '14 BCBBW just honestly didn't taste like the same beer to me as BCBBW '13 (or KH, for that matter), which in my opinion was VERY close to KH. The '15 is a return to form, although not as good as the '13, but definitely good. '13 just had that hybrid stout/barleywine full mouthfeel and complexity depth that KH had going on. Again, ymmv.

Bourbon County Stout hasn't been aged for 100 days for a while now, it's usually around a year. As for King Henry 1.0 vs. Bourbon County Barleywine, the two have a slightly different grain bill. I'm not sure how much different caramel malt is from caramel 120, or crystal malt from crystal wheat, but those are the primary differences.

Unless King Henry 1.0 was a different recipe from the bottled version, in which case I have no idea how similar it would be to BCBB.

Well, by Goose Island's own admission, the barrels were found in a junk pile. This is why the price of & hype surrounding Rare 2.0 is so farcical. The original Rare was aged in barrels that had a well-established pedigree, with proven cooperage qualities.

King Edward is a logical successor to King Henry. Just sayin'.

I don't think all that much of the BCBS variants, but King Henry was a different animal. If it's even 1/2 as good as the old one, it's worth seeking out.

I have never agreed with a post as much as this one. OG Rare was the best Stout I've ever had. Period.... Until 2015. And 2009 Temptation is the best $50 I've spent at a bar, enjoyed at Russian River. After opening it I felt like the kid on the playground that first got the un-edited version of Eminem's 8-Mile

This is definitely happening, but like others said, probably not being released until 2017. I imagine by that time, some asshats will be asking $450 for it on the secondary if this year's release is any indication.

I second the love for Batch 4 Temptation. That beer was unreal. I really, really wish they'd do another run of 750ml bottles.

While that's true, Rare 2.0 does taste pretty special. I haven't secured a bottle yet to properly break it down, but from the pours I've had I'd be inclined to agree with @BrianBo that 2.0 is the most complex Bourbon County I've had (now, I've never had OG Rare fresh, so take that with a grain of salt). I think 2.0 is over-hyped from a rarity perspective (I mean, if they had enough for every single person in line a LP Binny's and were pouring it like crazy at FoBAB, it ain't that rare), but it's definitely a unique-tasting beer, and in a good way. Maybe not $70+ good, but certainly worth trying to grab one bottle at MSRP.

I would definitely be interested in a King Henry successor using these barrels, because I think the resultant beer would be really fun.

You got a link to the part about them dumping the bourbon?

Perhaps the bottom right is what this so called King Henry is that you all are referring!?

Was the original iteration of King Henry barrel aged?

Yup. It was aged in Pappy barrels that previously held BC Rare. It sounds almost too good to be true, but it is one of those few beers that really did live up to expectations.
I had one this summer and it was still quite good, but alas it's prime has passed.

If they do it, I imagine they might consider another lottery release, a la Rare Day? I struck out on Rare, but I'd try much harder for KH.

Also, anyone know what original KH MSRP was?

This reminds me of a question I've long been asking myself, how come they never put the barley wine in the spent Templeton rye barrels of the Bcbs variants? Vanilla rye bcbbw, 2013 proprietors bbcbw, backyard rye bcbbw coffee bcbbw etc. Do the adjuncts make the barrels unusable for a second use?
