Thanks, that gives me hope that one local store, whose release list I was on, may pull through. So many places around me just do reserves that going and hunting it down is basically impossible.

You would be surprised what still may be out there. Picked up this gem today at a local MI store:

After watching the MSU game last night (Go Green!), I decided to stop next door to the local liquor store. I'd stopped in a week or so earlier asking about BCBS (and variants). Sure enough, the new owner did follow up with his West Side rep, and was told he'd need to order at LEAST 100 cases of Goose Island product to see ANY BCBS (which he admitted he wasn't willing / able to do given he just bought the shop). He told me that was essentially $3000 ($30 / case) he couldn't afford to gamble with...

All this was great, until he said he was getting another big name beer in place of it; Dragon's Milk. He said he'd be pricing bombers at about $10, at which point I informed the new owner that if he sold it for $10, he'd have craft fans laughing in his face (Note that I see this for about $7.99 at most stores - and it's a shelf turd...It's a good beer, but at the price there are other options I'd rather have).

On this note, I think it's time to take my enjoyment of craft beer to the next level and offer this guy my services (see: weekend help / beer purchasing). They're trying to make this a better shop, but just have no clue as to where to begin.

@red94tt if you were looking for a bottle of rare you should've said something haha. Still sitting on my impulse buy and would be more than willing to alleviate the marital headache of said impulse purchase by offloading it lolol.

Just curious, what part of the state, and what was the price you paid for it? I'm guessing there are still a few bottles of this available in West Michigan still, but no idea what the pricing is on it at this point (see: declining supply/increasing demand).

There you go, have him throw you a couple of free bombers or some sixers for the helpful advice!

Ouch, I know how that goes all too well!

Snagged it from a store in Macomb County (SE part of the state) and the price was $120. More than it should be but like you pointed out...it's getting late in the game.

@bassfishingguy I'd take that impulse buy off your hands and ease your headache!

Pretty sure I know what store this is... Hearken back a page. Anyways, Nice score.... $120.00 for a bottle of beer is just asinine. :grimacing:

Could be the same store but might not be...I was told that they received more than just two bottles or Rare. 120 bucks is indeed crazy but some things are hard to place a price tag on. I just had a baby boy back in late October...this will be his "birth year" beer. My best friend and I plan on enjoying it with him 18-21 years from now after it's long hibernation in my cellar. I wanted something special and being that the Heaven Hill barrels used were originally made near my birth year, this was a must have:slight_smile:

While that's an awesome idea (and congrats, too!), I have to ask if you've had Rare yet this year. Because if you haven't, and this is your only chance, I see it a bad idea to sit on it for 18+ years. VERY FEW beers, if any, survive that amount of time. And a special beer like this needs to be enjoyed relatively soon to appreciate all its nuances. Now, if you've tried it already, fine, by all means age one. Just a thought.

Thanks! Unless someone around here has a surprise tapping, I won't be trying it fresh and I'm comfortable with that. I could have gone the more traditional route with a JW Lees, Bigfoot or maybe even an Expedition stout but this is what I decided to go with. It will see proper/consistent cellar conditions from here on out and I'll roll the dice with it. At the very least, if it ends up tasting horrible after that amount of time, my boy will have a good story to share about how crazy his old man was for trying that:wink:

Well, as long as you have a beer cellar, you'll be alright. If that one is bad, you two can open another one and I bet that one will taste pretty damn good too!

yes, MegaBev in marshall has some BCBS set aside, but you have to approach the counter, make piercing eye contact and just say "KALI MA SHOCK DE DAY!!"

Ha-ha, also put your hand out toward their heart and shake it just a little. This will result in at least a bottle of each variant.

Any idea if there is any left? I think I know what store you snagged them from.
